AWAKENING

Shaiapouf looms over the jungle path and tells Gon to give up, calling it his unlucky day. In a close-up, Shaiapouf clasps his hands and warns that the pain will not last forever but will feel like hell from now on. Shaiapouf then speaks in profile, offering to make the end painless if Gon reveals the other person's location, referring to a friend as a little punk. Gon is shown moving through the foliage in the background. Shaiapouf threatens to swing his freshly chopped-off head around and scream if Gon refuses. In the final wide panel, Shaiapouf questions whether showing oneself is what it means to be human and states he is sure the other will appear sooner or later, ending with "THAT'S RIGHT...".

Gon stares upward with wide, sweat-streaked eyes and clenched teeth, his spiky hair wild against motion lines. "IF I CAN'T DEFEAT HIM!!" he thinks desperately. "THERE'S NO POINT TO THIS..." A heavy shadow falls over him. In the next panel Gon stands rigid in a dark, textured space, fists balled at his sides, staring straight ahead at an enormous black eye that fills the background. The thought "Run away..." forms beside him. Small inset panels show a partial face and a creature's eye reacting with dots of surprise. Large jagged sound effects burst across the bottom of the page.

In a jungle setting a long-haired, fanged creature laughs maniacally while a small figure cowers in the foliage. "THAT'S WHAT I WANT!! THAT FEELING OF SHRIVELING UP IN FEAR!! IT'S GREAT!!" the creature roars. "HUHA HAHA HAHA HAHA THAT!!!" and "HU HA!!" Nearby Gon crouches on a rock, fists ready, looking alarmed. The creature declares "I WILL ABSOLUTELY DESTROY YOU!!" and "TOO BAD, YOU'VE ALREADY WET MY APPETITE TO KILL." A massive impact panel erupts with "Run a.way!!" "GON..." "The enemy's caliber is unknown" "I MUST PROTECT HIM!!" and "Avoid it if you can't be certain of winning..." Gon lunges forward shouting "NO MATTER WHAT IT TAKES!!" as a huge scream "UUAAAAAAAHHH!!" fills the air.

A massive winged chimera ant looms over the battlefield, its body twisting violently as it unleashes a barrage of slashing attacks. A tiny figure is hurled through the air amid explosions and debris. In the lower panels the ant-like being laughs maniacally while a woman with long hair stands amid dense jungle foliage. The creature taunts its opponent, shouting that they cannot move a muscle and have lost their spine. The woman, breathing heavily, questions whether she should kill the creature but admits she is having too much fun. She then gasps in pleasure, declaring that the sensation feels so good.

The winged chimera ant continues its assault, striking repeatedly with powerful blows. Palm dodges and runs through the jungle while the creature screams in ecstasy. Multiple onomatopoeic sound effects mark the rapid exchanges. In the final panels the ant pauses, its expression shifting as it declares that the target is its friend and begins to explain why.

Gon stares forward with wide, bloodshot eyes and a trembling, bloodied face, his spiky hair wild and his hands clenched tightly. He declares with raw intensity that the person he is protecting is his most precious friend. Below, a grotesque, skull-like face with mismatched eyes sweats and panics, its thoughts racing about whether it should kill him while another voice begs to stop making that expression. Large, intense eyes fill the frame with the command to run away. Gon then crouches in a powerful stance, surrounded by repeated, echoing commands to run away as he shouts for someone to shut the hell up, his body shaking with emotion.

A large feathered creature with a grotesque head and wide eyes flies through the air, its wing extended as it speaks of eating the rest and keeping the head. Explosive motion lines and impact effects fill the scene. In a forest-like background, Gon is shown running amid trees while large circular text bubbles declare 'GON IS' and 'MY BEST'. Gon is shown leaping away in a burst of speed lines, the opponent recalling how the boy took his own finger and jammed it into his head before vanishing. Shaiapouf, floating among jungle foliage, questions how Gon escaped and whether he has gone mad. He then experiences a sudden wave of relief, declaring the sensation refreshing and that everything is merely a figment of his imagination. Gon reappears standing in the forest, staff in hand, looking refreshed as though released from a burden. Shaiapouf’s eye widens in lingering doubt while Gon remains composed.

A massive patterned snake Chimera Ant towers and coils in terror as bold lettering declares TREMBLING IN FEAR!!! Palm stands in a wide fighting stance with feathered wings flared, facing the beast directly. Gon stands amid radiating impact lines and tells the snake, "LET THE OTHER ANTS KNOW." In a tight close-up, Gon’s intense eyes and slight smile accompany his warning: "YOU’LL LOSE YOUR LIFE." and "IF YOU GET ANYWHERE NEAR US..."

A monstrous creature with wide eyes and open mouth begins "DON'T FU..." while a long-haired female figure watches from the side. In the large panel a long-haired character lunges forward with flowing hair and extended hand, replying "ALRIGHT." Palm’s small winged form stands on the ground in the background among foliage, watching the action.
