The Kingnapper's Shadow

In a sprawling, chaotic scene set high above the towering buildings of Elbaf, Monkey D. Luffy laughs exuberantly while being carried mid-air by Usopp, who clings desperately with a panicked expression. Luffy holds a massive roasted turkey leg in one hand. Below and around them, a colorful cast of characters reacts wildly: a woman with an afro aims a weapon, a green bird-like creature flies nearby, a swordsman brandishes his blade, and various giants and townsfolk scatter in surprise. The massive "ONE PIECE" logo dominates the top right as the duo soars over the vibrant, bustling island city.

High in the snowy mountains of Elbaf, a towering figure in a horned Viking helmet and ornate armor stands with a stern expression. Speech bubbles fill the air: "YOU'RE ALL PUNY HUMANS...I THIS IS THE FIRST I'VE EVER SEEN ONE MOVING AROUND FOR REAL." "AHA HA! HOW CUTE!" "HANG ON...!! DIDJA JUST SAY 'POPS'I! YOU'RE HARALD'S KIDI!" "HE'S ON A VOYAGE...!!" "...POPS AIN'T HERE." "THIS IS ELBAF, BUT..." A large "ドン" sound effect crashes across the panel. Smaller figures stand in the background. The bottom tier shows close-ups of angry, shouting characters with dialogue: "WATCH YOUR MOUTH!! DO I LOOK LIKE I TAKE ORDERS FROM A HUMANI!" "IT WAS SAID TO BLOW EVERYTHING IN THE SURROUNDING VICINITY AWAY." A cloaked swordsman clashes with the helmeted giant. The giant roars in fury: "YEAH, RIGHT! BESIDES, SOMEONE AS WEAK-LOOKING AS YOU HAS NO RIGHT TO BOSS ME AROUND!!" "...JUST 'CAUSE I'M HURTI!" "YOU SERIOUSLY EXPECT MY FATHER TO DROP EVERYTHING..." A massive impact erupts with "YAAAAAAA ARRGH!!" and explosive debris. The giant is sent flying backward. Narration continues: "HARALD'S PATH CROSSED WITH THIS MAD MAN ONCE BEFORE..." "LOKI HAS BEEN SERIOUSLY HURT!!" The cloaked figure lands amid the destruction as the giant bellows "VOHA HA HA! THERE WE HAVE IT!"

A grand castle towers over the Holy Land as chaos erupts. "UNBELIEVABLE!! THAT BIG MAN IN BLACK HAS TO BE THE CULPRIT!!" someone shouts amid the destruction. "SOMEONE ATTACKED AND KIDNAPPED FIVE OF THE KINGSI!" another cries. Narration states, "IT HAPPENED DURING THE REVERIE THAT YEAR..." In a quiet garden filled with butterflies, a tall silhouette of the man in black stands with one arm raised. "...CANNOT BE USED TO EXTORT MU," he declares. "THE LIVES OF THOSE SOVEREIGNS..." A hooded woman with a veil and face mask and a spiky-haired man with a rifle react in shock nearby. "AN INTRUDER MADE IT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOWER ROOM, HIDDEN DEEP WITHIN THE HOLY LAND," reads a caption. "THE INCIDENT WOULD BE THE FIRST AND LAST OF ITS KIND," another states. "...THE HOLY LAND INTO TOTAL CHAOS, DIDN'T ITI!" "NO KIDDING, BUT IT THREW..." voices exclaim as the spiky-haired man aims his weapon.

The man in black's silhouette fills the panel. "HE KNEW THERE WAS NOTHING MORE HE COULD DO IN THAT MOMENT, SO HE WITHDREW WITH THESE WORDS:" narration explains. His face emerges with wide eyes as he declares, "I'LL BE BACK!!" A monstrous giant creature with multiple eyes looms behind him. "JUST WAIT. ONE DAY..." he continues amid crashing sound effects. "THE MAN CLAIMED TO BE A DAVY JONESIAN PIRATE..." reads a box. Later, the castle appears again under clouds. "IRONICALLY, ON THAT VERY DAY, THERE WAS ANOTHER INTRUDER IN THE HOLY LAND," a caption notes. "...BE BROUGHT TO LIGHT. NATURALLY, THIS INCIDENT WOULD NEVER..." Panic breaks out among armored nobles and guards. "GUARDS, PROTECT THE NOBLES!!" one yells. "NO, WE SHOULD KILL IT AND HAVE IT STUFFED!!" "I WANT IT AS A SLAVE!!" "LOOK!! IT'S SO MUCH BIGGER THAN A NORMAL GIANT!!" they shout in terror.

A massive horned giant with a spiked club clashes violently with the spiky-haired man in an explosion of debris. "AND I KNOW TRESPASSING IS A CRIME, BUT ISN'T ALL THIS GOING A BIT TOO FARI!" the giant roars. "DON'T LET THE 'KINGNAPPER' GET AWAY!" "THAT WASN'T ME, I SWEAR!!" the spiky-haired man protests. "HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT!! I'M SORRY THE NEGOTIATIONS WENT SOUTH..." the giant laughs amid impact sounds. Close-ups show furious faces. "I'LL SHOW HIM..." "THAT MUST BE THE GUY WHO KIDNAPPED THE KINGS!! HOW DARE HE USE ME AS A SCAPEGOATI!" "IT'S JUST ONE THING AFTER THE OTHER...!!!" "THE CULPRIT RAN TOWARDS THE CASTLE, PROCEED WITH CAUTION!!" "AN ADMIRAL WAS MURDERED!!" voices shout. Smaller panels show a running figure and a horse. "A GIANT IN THE HOLY LANDI DON'T YOUR KIND LIVE IN THE BOONIESI" "SEIZE THAT BIG'UN!!" "HMI!" reactions erupt as the giant towers over the scene.

The horned giant Harald swings his massive club with explosive force. "VOHA HA HA! STATE YOUR NAME!!" he bellows. The spiky-haired man counters with a blade, shouting, "BARA HA HA HA! IT'S HARALD!!" A mustached man with a rifle aims and yells, "ANGLE YOUR NEXT STRIKE TOWARD THE TOWN, THEY'LL ENSLAVE YOU IF YOU GET CAUGHT!!" "I'M ROCKS!!" Harald replies amid the clash. "HUHI! WHYI!" the mustached man reacts in shock. "DON'T ASK QUESTIONS!!" Harald snaps as massive impacts and "G'AAAHHH!!" "WAHHH!!" echo. The narration box states, "...BLEW AWAY EVERYONE WITHIN A 5 KILOMETER RADIUS." The final caption reads, "THE CLASH BETWEEN THE TWO STRANGERS..." as the enormous battle sends debris flying across the Holy Land.

A young Rocks D. Xebec snarls in fury after being told not to associate with criminals. "WHAT THEI! ARE YOU SERIOUSLY JUST GONNA JUMP OFF THE EDGEI!" "DON'T BE RIDICULOUS! AS IF I'D EVER ASSOCIATE WITH A CRIMINAL LIKE YOU!!" Elsewhere he laughs wildly, "VOHA HA, IF YOU SURVIVE THIS, LET'S MEET AGAIN, HARALD!!" "THE NEW WORLD IS THAT WAY!!" "HOW DO I GET TO ELBAFI!" Narration explains that Rocks had taken down a Navy Admiral just moments earlier. In the blink of an eye, Rocks' infamy boomed. The event sent a powerful shock throughout the seas. A massive wanted poster appears: "WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE ROCKS D. XEBEC". Despite efforts to save him, the admiral did not survive. It was deemed the most grievous of sins. Some time later, the gates of justice were destroyed and the attacker fled. The stolen funds were later used to support Rocks' pirate activities. A ship carrying a great amount of celestial tribute to Mary Geoise was attacked. "UGWAGHH!!"

Narration continues: until that point, Rocks had always acted against the World Government, but after that he started to target pirates too. Pirate crews would compete in a series of matches, wagering their flags or even their crewmates in a truly ruthless game. In the world of pirates there exists a long-standing tradition known as a Davy Back Fight. After that, Rocks used this tradition to build his entire crew. They had won many scoundrels to their side before they even had a flag. A young Harald stands on the deck of a ship at Elbaf. "THAT'S IT!" "THEY'VE GOT AN AMAZING GUY!! YOU'LL LOSE IT WHEN YOU SEE HIM." A small child with pigtails sits nearby. "THEY MADE THEIR WAY TO ELBAF."

At Elbaf's Quest Castle, voices greet Rocks. "I MISSED YA, HARALD!!" "I'VE HEARD ALL ABOUT YOUR CRIMES. WHAT ARE YOU DOING HEREI" "ROCKS!!" "DAD REALLY CAME BACKI!" Rocks, now grown, towers over the group with a massive fist raised. "YOU GOTTA JOIN MY CREW!" "THE WORLD GOVERNMENT WON'T HEAR YA OUT RIGHTI!" "YOU GET IT NOWI! THE TIME HAS COME!!" Harald, the horned king of Elbaf, sits among the crowd. "I KNOW THAT YOU'RE STRONG, LOKI, BUT YOU SHOULDN'T WANDER INTO THE REALM OF THE DEAD." "OH NO... I RUSHED HOME AS FAST AS I COULD..." "THANK GOODNESS." A woman with a glass, a clown-like man, and others react. "SO THAT'S THE KING OF ELBAFI!" "HE SURE IS BIG!" "THIS IS A REAL FEAST! JIHA HA HA!" "IF SOMETHIN' CHURNS YOUR STOMACH, YOU SHOULD JUST CRUSH IT!!!" "DON'T BE A WET BLANKET, HARALD!! ELBAF HAS THE GREATEST WARRIORS IN THE WORLD!!" "WHAT'S THE POINT OF REACHING FOR SOMETHING THAT'S IMPOSSIBLEI! YOU GOTTA LEVEL THE PLAYING FIELD!" "WHAT OF ITI! AREN'T THOSE ALLIES GOVERNMENT PAWNSI!" "DON'T BE STUPID!! IF I ANCHOR MYSELF WITH A THUG LIKE YOU, I'LL LOSE ALL THE GOOD WILL I'VE BUILT UP WITH MY ALLIES."

Rocks continues arguing at the feast table. "YOU GUYS SHOULD KNOW THAT IF YOU FOLLOW A MAN LIKE HIM, YOU'LL ONLY BE LED TO RUIN!!" A woman with glasses replies, "HEY! CAN'T YOU TWO JUST ENJOY THE MEALI!" Rocks yells, "PEOPLE NEVER CHANGE! THAT SAME BLOODLUST IS STILL PULSING THROUGH YOU!" "THAT'S THE OLD WAY!! ELBAF HAS CHANGED!!" At the table sit Don Marlon, Miss Buckin, and Shiki. Narration and labels identify them: "DON MARLON (GANGSTER FROM THE WEST BLUE)", "MISS BUCKIN THE TECH BANDIT (BUCKINGHAM STUSSY)", "SHIKI THE WICKED (FUTURE GOLDEN LION)". Shiki laughs, "FOLLOWINGI! THAT MORONI! JIHA HA!! DON'T MAKE ME LAUGH!! WE'RE ALL COMPLETELY OUT FOR OURSELVES!! NONE OF US WOULD BAT AN EYE IF ROCKS DIED!" Miss Buckin adds, "WELL... THAT'S NOT TO SAY HIS PLANS DON'T HAVE A CERTAIN APPEAL. THEY COULD PROVE VERY LUCRATIVE." A man with a cigar notes, "HAVE YOU HEARD OF HACHINOSUI THE PLACE THEY CALL THE ISLE OF EXILES, OR EVEN PIRATE ISLAND."

In a flashback, young Ganzui grins wildly while explaining the island's massive gold deposit and how a shadowy organization helped criminals amass a fortune that angered the government. Pirate Prophet Ochoku asks why the survivors banded together last year, while Edward Newgate notes it was meant to be a barren island with no food. Ganzui declares he will take charge of Hachinosu, turn the dumbasses under him into a pirate paradise, and mocks the government and Marines as clueless dogs. The group discusses cutting a deal with the government to take the island back after splitting the loot, warning that nearby criminals will strip everything. A cloaked figure sits at a table covered in food and treasure.

Young Rocks leaps dramatically, declaring he will crush the Navy, bring the Holy Land crashing down, and become King of the World, calling the island his base. He shouts "I'M GONNA BE KING OF THE WORLD!!" with a massive "ばん!!" impact. In another scene, he fights while yelling that enemies are too big and one must pull it off. He then faces Harald directly, urging him to join forces so they will be unstoppable, insisting there is no power that lasts forever. Harald stands nearby with a serious expression as Rocks grins intensely.

Loki, bandaged and excited, suddenly realizes he has found salvation and shouts he is going to claim the whole damn world. He rejects an invitation, yelling "QUIT INVITING ME!! I TOLD YOU I'M THE KING!!" and "THE WORLD...!!" Narration states Rocks' plan had reached fruition with his monstrous crew, while Harald continued rejecting invitations for four years. Harald then appears on a ship, sending shockwaves as he orders "SET SAIL, YA BASTARDS!!" The legend embarks throughout the world as the chapter ends.
