Hunter × Hunter chapter 375: Persuasion — what is in it
Succession Contest arc · 19 pages · 40 characters
Key facts in this chapter
Chapter 375 is titled Persuasion. The teachings of Tyson are being recited in a formal hall. An open book lies on the floor during the address.
Prince Tyson's Guardian Beast is an emitter with recruitment-type ability. The beast transforms happiness into passionate following of the teachings. Breaking the taboo of the teachings brings harsh punishment.
Camilla's Guardian Beast is a manipulator with compulsory-type ability. Tsubeppa's Guardian Beast is a transmuter's coexisting-type ability requiring a partner. Luzurus' Guardian Beast is a conjurer's semi-compulsory manipulator ability.
Halkenburg's private guard auras rose dramatically when assembled. The guards perform a silent prayer for Momoze. The synchronized guards form a joint-type party creating massive aura.
Halkenburg's Guardian Spirit Beast is described as an Enhancer with mutual symbiotic ability. The feather mark increases individual potential when shared among many. The ability reaches top-class Nen power when all share the same will.
Olseny received the Guardian Spirit Beast's mark after trading shifts. Olseny's memories of using the ability appear hazy, indicating possible memory revision. The Guardian Spirit Beast exhibits manipulator-type effects when affixing marks.
Room 1014 contains an assassin. Room 1009 holds a united power. Room 1004 is considered trash. 2nd Prince Camilla is expected to act independently.
Succession war cannot be stopped once begun. Audience with the king is restricted to banquets. 9th Prince is heading toward the king. Five additional escorts will accompany the 9th Prince.
In a grand hall lined with chandeliers, a group of suited men and attendants stand at attention as the morning address begins. A large decorative sign reads "THE TEACHINGS OF LOVE BEGIN!!" Two voices call out in greeting: "GOOD MORNING, QUEEN TYSON!!" and "GOOD MORNING, EVERYONE." A smiling woman with pigtails and a frilled collar gestures enthusiastically, declaring "LOVE WILL ALWAYS PREVAIL!!" and "THERE'S NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT..." Nearby, a line of men in formal attire watch silently. In the vast corridor below, followers stand in formation around an open book on the checkered floor while a speaker proclaims, "THIS IS LOVE! YES, THE POWER OF LOVE!! FROM THE TEACHINGS OF TYSON - CHAPTER 2, VERSE 4 OF THE KANA CHRONICLES..." Additional narration continues: "ONE DAY, THEY'LL ALL BECOME WONDERFUL MEMORIES. WHETHER YOUR NIGHTS SPENT TOSSING AND TURNING BECAUSE YOU MISS SOMEONE TOO MUCH, OR UNABLE TO RETURN TO THOSE DAYS NO MATTER HOW HARD YOU WISH IT..." At the bottom of the scene, a young person with short hair and a bearded man in a suit stand together as background voices shout "VIVA PRINCE TYSON!!"

Two characters observe the scene from the side. The short-haired youth says "THEY DON'T SEEM EVIL..." while the bearded man replies "HMMM..." and asks "MORE IMPORTANTLY, WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THESE THINGS?" Further discussion references "NISHINA KANA" lyrics and questions whether the teachings are sinister. A large heart-shaped Guardian Beast with wings and a single eye floats above the followers. Text boxes explain: "THE SQUINTY EYEBALL COLLECTS AURA FROM ITS HOSTS AND IN RETURN BESTOWS HAPPINESS TO THEM. THEIR AMOUNT OF HAPPINESS IS TRANSFORMED INTO PASSIONATE LEADERSHIP AND FOLLOWING OF THE TEACHINGS OF TYSON." Another box states the beast is Prince Tyson's emitter-type Guardian Spirit Beast that collects aura through a recruitment ability. The youth notes "IF THE ONE AND ONLY TABOO OF THE TEACHINGS OF TYSON IS BROKEN, HARSH PUNISHMENT SHALL BE DEALT." The heart creature concludes with "HOW- EVER..."

A woman with long dark hair stands in profile, gazing at a massive mushroom-like Guardian Beast with bulbous white caps and a textured stalk. Text explains that once a person meets certain conditions, the 2nd Prince Camilla's Guardian Beast allows her to control them to her will. In the next panel, a man with glasses and slicked-back hair faces a spotted, porous Guardian Beast inside a body-like structure. The text states that within the beast's own body, the 5th Prince Tsubeppa's Guardian Beast can synthesize drugs and chemicals for all kinds of effects, requiring a partner. Below, a man with puffy pigtails stands with hands clasped before a large insectoid Guardian Beast with a wide open maw. The text describes how the 7th Prince Luzurus' Guardian Beast conjures a trap based on the target's desire, activating when the desire is satisfied.

A close-up shows a stern man with a scar, sweat drops on his face, thinking that the auras of the people here were average but rose dramatically with 9th Prince Halkenburg's private guard, becoming a threat to 1st Prince Benjamin. In a grand hall, a man in uniform stands with his back to the viewer facing a line of suited men, suggesting a moment of silent prayer for 12th Prince Momoze. The uniformed man declares it is a joint-type party form when they synchronize, creating a massive amount of aura. Smaller panels show the group from above and close-ups of individual guards as motion lines and impact shapes emphasize the synchronized will.
A massive surge of aura erupts upward in a dramatic column, surrounded by sharp black feather-like shapes radiating outward. Text explains that the 9th Prince Halkenburg's Guardian Spirit Beast is an Enhancer with a mutual symbiotic type ability. The more people share the mark of the feather that gathers around the prince, the greater each individual's potential becomes. When everyone shares the same will, the ability's force rises to the absolute top class of all Nen abilities. In the foreground, a man in a heavy coat stands with his back to the viewer, facing a group of silhouetted figures. He reacts with shock: "Th... This is... Incredible..." In the next tier of panels, a spiky-haired man with sweat on his face grips a phone tightly and shouts into it: "If we're going to kill them, we've got to do it now!! Before they become aware of their own ability!! Give me the order!!" Another voice on the line addresses Prince Benjamin directly: "Prince Benjamin, I'm sure you've already realized yourself, as well..." Smaller inset panels show close-ups of the Guardian Spirit Beast's mark and a figure warning that chopping off the head and body should make the abilities fall as well, while noting one problem remains.

The spiky-haired man continues his analysis in multiple thought panels. He recalls that the First Queen's family guard, Olseny, traded shifts with Halkenburg's private guard and also received the Guardian Spirit Beast's mark. He notes that Olseny's memories of using the ability are hazy, suggesting memory revision from a manipulation attack. The Guardian Spirit Beast itself appears in a large panel: a fierce, winged creature with horns, a single eye, and a sign reading "GRRRRR..." The man concludes that although the beast is an Enhancer, it is influenced by Halkenburg's nature, allowing manipulator abilities when affixing marks. He warns that attacking without a solid grasp could lead to disaster, as the beast might counterattack or rewrite memories. He stresses the need for at least one or two witnesses who can testify to the attack and its effects, fearing he lacks enough self-awareness to mistrust his own memory.
A stern man with spiky hair and a scar on his cheek holds a phone to his ear, sweat beading on his forehead. "IT'S JOINT-TYPE," he reports. "YES, SIR," he adds. A jagged speech bubble questions, "IS THE ORIGIN OF THIS AURA... HALKEN-BURG?" In the next panel he continues, "I'LL EXPLAIN THE DETAILS LATER..." while a subordinate notes, "I WOULD NEED TWO MORE PEOPLE... IN ORDER TO SECURE INFORMATION." Elsewhere, a bearded man seated before monitors replies "...NO." to an unseen voice asking, "CAN YOU KILL HIM?" A bald man with a facial scar listens intently. The spiky-haired man snaps, "DON'T GET DISTRACTED NOW." He then details the threats: "AN ASSASSIN IN ROOM 1014, A UNITED POWER IN ROOM 1009, AND TRASH IN ROOM 1004..." In a changing room the bald man responds, "IT IS, HOWEVER, THE WISEST COURSE OF ACTION." The spiky-haired man retorts, "YOU PROPOSE WE SIT BACK AND WATCH...? THAT'S NOT REALLY MY STYLE." The bald man counters, "THERE WILL BE OTHERS, LIKE 2ND PRINCE CAMILLA, WHO DIG THEIR OWN GRAVES WITHOUT US HAVING TO LIFT A FINGER. THE VOYAGE HAS JUST BEGUN."

In a grand hallway two men stand with their backs to the viewer. A speech bubble warns, "IF YOU CONTINUE TO OPPOSE IT, YOU MIGHT EVEN BE IMPRISONED." Another states, "THE KING HAS DECREED THAT ONCE THE SUCCESSION WAR HAS BEGUN, IT WILL NOT BE STOPPED UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES." A young man with light hair pleads, "I'M GOING TO GO TRY TO DIRECTLY APPEAL TO FATHER AGAIN." An attendant replies, "YOUR HIGHNESS... WHERE ARE YOU GOING?" and "ANY AUDIENCE WITH THE KING OUTSIDE OF THE BANQUETS IS FORBIDDEN..." The young man insists, "SO THEN LET HIM DISQUALIFY ME! I'D WELCOME IT!" A close-up shows him sweating heavily, thinking, "IT'S THE SAME AS IF I JUST LEFT THEM TO DIE...!" and "IF ANOTHER VICTIM IS CLAIMED WHILE I SIT BY AND DO NOTHING..." At room 1011, suited men react as one says, "ROGER." Another declares, "I WILL ACCOMPANY THE 9TH PRINCE AS HE HEADS TO THE KING. THERE WILL BE THREE... NO, FIVE OTHERS ACCOMPANYING US." A subordinate answers, "YES, SIR!" while the rest are told to continue duties. One man walks away thinking, "I CANNOT BEAR TO LET THAT HAPPEN...!"

The short-haired girl clasps her hands in shock, eyes wide, as she realizes what has happened. "IS THIS... MY MAGIC POWER?!" she exclaims. She adds excitedly, "WOWWOWOW WOW! THIS IS UNBELIEVABLE! I WISHED IT, AND A DOOR OPENED LEADING ME TO KAA-CHIN'S ROOM!" In a flashback sequence she kneels on the floor and desperately wishes, "O DOORWAY TO KAA-CHIN'S ROOM! APPEAR FOR ME! PLEASE!" She recalls that wishing once more made the door appear again, only for it to vanish after she returned. Convinced, she declares, "THEN MY MAGIC IS REAL!" The scene shifts to a close-up of Hanzo's intense face, sweat visible, as he struggles with the same ability. "WHY CAN'T I DO IT...?!" he thinks, followed by "WHY ...?!" A large panel at the bottom shows the name "HANZO!" shouted in emphasis.

The pigtail girl glares angrily at the bald man in the hospital bed and warns, "IF AFTER YOU PUT ME THROUGH THAT, YOU'RE ABOUT TO TELL ME YOU FAILED, I'M LIPPING MY FEE TENFOLD!" The bald man sits up and replies that the client showed real nerve by staying awake all night. He notes they are now facing a much bigger problem. In the hallway, two figures discuss the situation: one says Verget sounds like he was pretty pissed off but is letting Verele go to Kurapika's courses. The other agrees it sounds like the work of 13th Prince Marayam's Guardian Beast. A suited man with slicked-back hair explains that the room has been isolated from the outside world, so the corridor door may not match what it should be. He concludes there is no need to send Vergeleinte because of someone's silver-tongued Nen promises that cost them a precious comrade.

A man with slicked-back hair states he has found a good solution. In a modest room, a baby rests in a crib while a woman with pigtails holds a cup and agrees with the assessment that sending another person inside remains risky while Barigen’s murderer is still at large. The objective to learn Nen died with the victim. Down a long hallway, suited figures walk past ornate doors as someone asks what the commotion is. In the main room, a bald man in a suit and a woman with her hair in a bun explain that observers can watch actions and judge for themselves whether Nen truly exists. They offer to teach Nen to the workers present. A spiky-haired man erupts in disbelief, calling the idea absurd superpower nonsense and magic tricks that do not exist. He insists Nen is merely a mental technique for drawing out dormant powers. The bald man confirms he believes he can make others acknowledge Nen abilities. The woman with the bun watches the exchange closely.
A close-up shows a sweating, wide-eyed man with short hair reacting in shock. Beside him stands a tall, muscular figure with light hair who declares this is the real him and admits he does not fully understand how the change works. The muscular man explains he kept wishing and praying until his body slowly changed into its present form. A woman with long hair notes that the mind and emotions affect the body. The muscular man adds that his Nen abilities are nowhere near their limit. A bald man considers the risk of demonstrating a clone technique. A black panel states that overwhelming visual proof is the most effective way to convince someone. The short-haired man sweats heavily and refuses to believe what he sees. The bun-haired woman warns that even with a knack, improving physical abilities takes two to three times longer than Kurapika’s rapid progress.
Two figures stand facing each other in darkness. The man in dark clothing stares at the tall braided-haired muscular figure and exclaims, "SO BEAUTIFUL EXIST...?!" Close-up panels emphasize the powerful legs and shoulders of the braided figure while narration describes "THE CRUEL SILENT DOMINANCE OF HER BULGING QUADRICEPS" and "THAT ICY ENCHANTING YET SINISTER CONTOUR OF HER TRAPEZIUS TO HER DELTOIDS." A bald onlooker states, "HE MUST BE TOO SHOCKED TO SPEAK," and another replies, "YUP." The braided figure then steps forward, hand extended, and declares, "SO HOW ABOUT START RIGHT NOW? YOU CAN CHOOSE WHICH OF YOUR WORKERS YOU'D LIKE US TO TEACH." The man in dark clothing recoils violently, shouting, "NO NO NO NO NO! NO NO!"

A spiky-haired man in a suit shouts with wide eyes and pointing finger, "TEACH ME NEN, PL—ERR, PRONTO!" and "ME! IT'S GOTTA BE ME!" The braided figure and a short-haired companion watch from the side. The suited man continues, explaining it would be more convenient to teach him directly to verify the truth. The braided figure agrees to change her guard shift to match the captain's schedule. Other characters react with surprise; one says, "HANG ON!" and another notes they will look outside. The spiky-haired man insists, "DON'T MISUNDERSTAND! IT'S NOT LIKE I BELIEVE KURAPIKA'S STORY OR ANYTHING!" while another voice adds, "THIS HAS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH NEN!"

A long, empty corridor stretches far into the distance under a high ceiling lined with recessed lights. Ornate wall panels and decorative borders run along both sides, with multiple closed doors visible. The checkered floor tiles lead the eye toward a distant end wall. In the bottom panel the view shifts slightly closer to one particular door labeled 1014; its surface is dark with a lighter checkered inset. A lone figure stands directly in front of the door, one hand resting on the handle as if about to open or close it.

Several men stand in the hallway outside room 1014. An older man with slicked-back hair speaks first. "And ask them to come to the front of this room? Should we contact one of the lower princes' association's hunters in room 1014..." Another man in a suit replies with visible irritation, "It's just as I thought, Kurapika's story was a load of bullshit! Do we really need to pointlessly confirm that?" A third man near the door says, "At a glance, it doesn't appear like anything's out of place. And it's not like there's any invisible walls, either. Well?" A blond man reacts with shock, eyes wide and hand raised. "!!" A woman with curly hair leans in and asks, "Are you listening to what I'm saying here?" The blond man continues explaining the Nen mechanics, "What magnificent strength! A perfect harmony of her flexor digitorum profundus and its protractor muscle!" He points emphatically while another voice states, "(1) Exit and entry are impossible. (2) Exit and entry are possible. (3) One-way travel. When a space has been sealed off by Nen, there are three main categories of barriers that can be set between it and the real world. If there are no changes to the normal appearance, then in most cases it is category (3), which means if you leave, you will most likely be unable to return." The blond man finishes, "O... of course, I am! But there's already a hole in your story!"

Two men stand with their backs partly turned as one groans "MMM GH...!" while the other addresses "CAPTAIN VERGEI...". Nearby, a braided-haired woman and a child discuss the Nen rule: "THE MOST COMMON RULE GIVEN IS 'WHEN THE ENTIRE BODY CROSSES THE BARRIER.'" and "WHEN IT COMES TO DEFINING WHAT CONSTITUTES AN ENTRANCE OR AN EXIT OF A BARRIER WITH NEN...". Captain Vergei leans forward with wide eyes and asks, "IS IT ALRIGHT IF I GO?" while adding, "WE SHOULD CONFIRM THIS ONCE NOW." In the next exchange a young man insists "EVIDENCE SPEAKS LOUDER THAN WORDS," prompting the retort "WOULD YOU SHUT UP CAPTAIN?" and the defensive reply "BUT DON'T MISUNDERSTAND, OKAY?!" Captain Vergei agrees, "OF COURSE! GO AHEAD...". The scene shifts to a long hotel hallway labeled 1013. Captain Vergei steps fully through the doorway and calls out, "CAN YOU SEE ME?" A voice answers from inside, "THERE, NOW I'M COMPLETELY OUTSIDE THE DOOR." From the foreground another man confirms, "EVERYTHING'S PERFECTLY NORMAL." Captain Vergei replies, "YEAH."
Captain Vergei stands in the doorway saying "NICE AND SLOW..." and "HERE I GO..." as he prepares to re-enter. He declares, "I'LL TRY TO COME BACK INTO THE ROOM." and is answered with "ALRIGHT THEN, NEXT...". Suddenly his arm extends dramatically with heavy SFX "ズ ズ ズ" and a burst of aura. A close-up shows his clawed hand reaching forward. Back at the door he asks "WELL?" while gripping the slicked-back hair man's hand. The foreground character reacts with shock, eyes wide and mouth open, thinking "THE VERY MOMENT THAT I FULLY LEFT THE ROOM..." and adding "TO BE HONEST..." as exclamation marks explode above his head.
A man with white hair in a dark suit walks down the long empty hallway of a grand building, one hand raised as he speaks. "IT SEEMS I'M LOOKING FOR ROOM 1013 NOW IS NO LONGER THE ROOM 1013 THAT YOU'RE IN," he says. "EVERYONE VANISHED LIKE SMOKE..." Further along the corridor he turns slightly and continues, "ALRIGHT THEN, I'M HEADING OFF..." and asks, "CAN YOU HEAR MY VOICE...?" In a side room, Kurapika stands with a serious expression beside two other men, one of whom remarks, "LOOKS LIKE IT'S ③." Kurapika states, "THIS IS PROBABLY PRINCE MARAYAM'S GUARDIAN BEAST'S NEN ABILITY." A close-up shows a pair of wide, intense eyes. The final wide panel reveals a vast rocky landscape under a dramatic sky, overlaid with the declaration "NEN TRAINING FOR EVERYONE...!!!" and the line "LET'S START IMMEDIATELY..." Vertical text along the edge reads "REALITY HE HAS NO CHOICE BUT TO ACCEPT!"

Discussion
The short-haired girl believes she possesses magic that creates doorways. She successfully wished a door to Kaa-chin's room into existence. The door vanished after she returned through it. Hanzo is attempting the same ability but failing. The scene ends with Hanzo's name being called out.
The pigtail girl is negotiating payment with the bald man. Verget allowed Verele to attend Kurapika's courses despite being angry. The room appears isolated from the outside world. The door outside may not match its expected appearance. A comrade was lost due to false Nen course promises.
Barigen was killed and his Nen objective died with him. The group discusses teaching Nen inside the current room. A baby is present in the room during the conversation. The spiky-haired man strongly denies Nen exists.
The muscular man transformed his body through prolonged wishing. Visual proof is presented as the best way to convince skeptics. Kurapika is referenced as having learned Nen very quickly. The short-haired man remains in visible shock after the demonstration.
The braided muscular figure is the focus of visual admiration and narration about her physique. The man in dark clothing reacts with strong verbal refusal to the teaching proposal.
Kurapika's story is referenced in dialogue as something the spiky-haired man claims not to believe. The braided figure is willing to alter her guard schedule to accommodate the request.
Room 1014 is being examined for possible Nen barriers. Three categories of Nen barriers are described: impossible exit/entry, possible exit/entry, and one-way travel.
Captain Vergei physically crosses the doorway threshold during the test. Room 1013 is the location of the Nen barrier experiment. Multiple observers watch from both inside and outside the room.
Captain Vergei re-enters the room after the test. An abnormal physical reaction occurs the instant he fully left the room. The slicked-back hair man is pulled by Captain Vergei upon return.
The hallway is labeled room 1013. Kurapika attributes the disappearance to Prince Marayam's Guardian Beast. The white-haired man is leaving the area after speaking. A Nen training landscape appears in the final panel. The page is numbered 1013 at the top.
