Garp, Dadan family bandits ### Summary Page 5: Ace returns to the Dadan family hideout alone. The bandits ask, "Ace... did you come back alone? Where is he? Wasn't Luffy with you?" Ace answers, "Dunno." Dadan is furious and worried, saying it is bad that they lost Luffy on the first day. She says if Luffy really died they will just tell Garp it was an accident, and complains that they have already given up on looking after Ace. A bandit warns, "He's the son of a demon, you know!? If the government ever found out, what do you think would happen to us!!?" One week later, after the bandits have assumed the worst, someone runs in shouting for Boss Dadan. Page 6: Luffy finally returns after a week, battered, scratched, and exhausted, but alive. The bandits shout, "Luffy came back!!!" and Dadan is stunned: "He was... still alive!? Where the hell did you go!?" Luffy explains that he was chased by wolves at the bottom of the valley. Dadan tells him he will work hard tomorrow and to go sleep, but the next morning Luffy immediately follows Ace again, asking, "Where are you going today, Ace!!?" He raises both arms and says, "Take me too!! Let's be friends!!" Ace still gives him only silence. Page 7: Luffy keeps chasing Ace day after day despite the danger. When Ace runs ahead, Luffy shouts, "Wait!! I'm not losing you today!!" Dadan yells after him, "Hey, Luffy!! You've got chores to do!!" and fumes that the kid will not listen to a word she says. On the eighth day, Luffy is chased by a crocodile-like beast. After the tenth day, he is crushed under falling rocks. He keeps losing Ace, but day after day he gets back up and tries again, each time pushing through injuries and the dangers of Mt. Corbo because he refuses to give up on following him.
