Squardo answers, "Old man!" Whitebeard says he tried to contact him earlier and is relieved he is safe. Squardo says their allied crews in the rear are taking a real beating, but reasons that if the Marines decide to push them from behind, then they will attack with all the forces they have and that is better. Whitebeard says he will join the battle himself and that they must push onward with all their might. Squardo answers, "True enough. Every last one of us owes you an enormous debt. For the sake of the Whitebeard Pirates, we would gladly lay down our lives!!" Marco notices Squardo walking up behind Whitebeard and asks, "Hm? What's Squardo doing up-" Page 14: Squardo suddenly runs Whitebeard through with his sword. Whitebeard stands impaled, blood spilling from the wound, while the battlefield freezes in shock. Around him, Marco, Luffy, Jinbe, Crocodile, and other allies stare in disbelief, and the only words on the page are stunned reactions: "...!" and "!!!" The volume ends on the image of Squardo's betrayal.
