Luffy, Luffy's Grandpa, unidentified pirates ### Summary Page 13: In the flashback, young Luffy watches his grandpa's pirate crew arguing over a pile of treasure. They shout, "WE'RE GONNA SPLIT UP THIS VOYAGE'S BOOTY!!" "AAAH, CAPTAIN, YOU'RE TAKING TOO MUCH." "DON'T BE SILLY!! IT'S BECAUSE OF ME THAT WE DIDN'T GET LOST ON THAT ISLAND!!" "I'M THE ONE WHO FOUND THE TREASURE." "I HAD THE MOST BATTLE FEATS." Someone yells, "FIGHT FOR IT!!!" In the next panel, the crew is laid out defeated on the deck while the grandpa flexes his bicep, declaring, "100 YEARS TOO EARLY." The battered crew groans, "STRONG...!!" and "CAPTAIN WINS!!" Young Luffy laughs hysterically at the scene. Later, the grandpa holds up a strange, swirly-patterned fruit, announcing, "HEY LUFFY!! LOOK AT THIS!! IT'S THE 'GOMU GOMU' FRUIT!!!! THE ENEMY SHIP HAPPENED TO HAVE IT!! IT'S A DREAM FRUIT WORTH FIVE BILLION BERIES IF YOU SELL IT, AND..." He is interrupted by young Luffy, who is already chewing on the fruit with a disgusted expression, saying, "NASTY." The grandpa screams in horror, "DON'T EAT IT!!!!" Page 14: The grandpa grabs young Luffy's face in a panic, yelling, "THAT'S A DEVILISH FRUIT!!! IF YOU EAT IT, YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO SWIM YOUR WHOLE LIFE!!!" Luffy screams in absolute shock, "EEEEEEEEEEH!? NO WAY-!!!" while his grandpa berates him, "YOU FOOL-!!!" Luffy sweats, realizing, "I REALLY CAN'T SWIM FOREVER..." but quickly calms down, smiling as he rationalizes, "OH WELL, THAT'S ALL RIGHT. IT'S NOT LIKE I WANTED TO BE A PIRATE. I don't know how to swim anyway." His grandpa looks annoyed at this quick recovery, muttering, "WHAT. YOU GET BACK UP QUICKLY, KID! THAT'S NO FUN." The grandpa then bursts into laughter again, saying, "WELL!! IT'S A GOOD THING THAT YOU HATED THE SEA!! IT WILL BE ALL RIGHT!! THERE ARE LOTS OF PEOPLE WHO DON'T GO OUT TO THE SEA AND CAN STILL LIVE HAPPILY!!" He turns and walks away, pulling Luffy along by the hand. Luffy looks back over his shoulder.
