Elsewhere, Law sits across from Hawkins and asks what happened to the alliance that Hawkins, Kid, and Apoo had formed. Hawkins explains that they had already been tricked: Scratchmen Apoo was already under Kaido's umbrella. Kaido is always looking for strong subordinates, welcoming those who wish to join him in order to create the strongest army ever. Against Kaido, their chance of victory was zero. There was only one real choice, because even surviving through submission was uncertain. Kid and Killer refused, stood against Kaido, and fought until they could not move.
