"As far as all the slaves you released are concerned... you are our saviour, and we owe you a lifelong debt," someone tells him, and Tiger says, "That makes me happy... You are the hero of Fishman Island!!" In the final panels, Tiger's old vow echoes: "If there's nobody else who'll challenge me, then I will take charge of the Fishman District!! My name is Tiger!! And I will protect all those beneath me!!!" The narration closes: "Thus ended the life... ...of Fisher Tiger, captain of the Sun Pirates..." Page 18: The chapter leaves the Sun Pirates with Tiger's death as an unresolved wound. Koala has been returned home, but the humans of her island betrayed the man who protected her. Arlong has been seized by Borsalino before he can take revenge. Jinbe and the surviving crew carry Tiger's final request: do not tell Fishman Island about the tragedy or the rage toward humans. Tiger dies as a man who freed slaves, spared enemies, protected Koala, and still could not accept human blood into his body. His death becomes the contradiction at the heart of the Fishman Island conflict.
