Luffy, Shiruku, Villagers ### Summary Page 19: Meanwhile, outside, Mikazuki no Gyari is furious. He yells, "GA HA HA HA HA!! AS IF THAT SMALL AMOUNT OF ROPE WAS TOO MUCH TO CUT!!! EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE MY SUBORDINATES," "THEY GOT SURPRISED AND GOT BEATEN BY A SINGLE BRAT!!" He clenches his fist angrily, accompanied by a large "SFX: DON!". A crewmate behind him adds, "THEY ARE ALL GYARI'S CREW!!". Gyari then grins menacingly, saying, "I HEARD A RUMOR THAT HE'S A HAMMER". A crewmate justifies their earlier loss: "BEFORE WE DROPPED OUR GUARD, THE CREW WAS BURDENSOME", "THAT'S WHY WE WERE DEFEATED". The pirates rally, drawing their weapons. One shouts, "OUR SABERS HAVE SCARED EVEN THE KNIGHTS OF MANY COUNTRIES!!" Another asks, "IS THERE ANYONE WHO CAN RIVAL US!?" and the crew replies, "NO ONE!!". They ready their firearms (SFX: *KACHA...!!*), stating, "THESE PISTOLS ARE:", "JUST TO BE SAFE". With a command of "ALRIGHT, LET'S GO!" and a collective "YEAH", the heavily armed pirate crew marches forward ominously (SFX: *STOMP STOMP*). Page 20: Back in the restaurant, Shiruku continues her story. "IN THE PAST, SOME PIRATES RAIDED THIS VILLAGE AND LEFT ME BEHIND AS A BABY." She states, "I'M THE CHILD OF THE PIRATES THAT RAVAGED THIS VILLAGE." A flashback panel shows a crying baby wrapped in a blanket left on the ground amidst a ruined, burning village, with townspeople looking down at it. Shiruku narrates, "THEY MAY HAVE HELD A GRUDGE...", "YOU'D THINK THEY WOULDN'T FEEL ANY NEED TO PITY SUCH A CHILD BUT...". Another flashback panel shows the villagers smiling warmly and raising the young Shiruku. "THE PEOPLE OF THIS VILLAGE HELD NO SUCH FEELINGS," she explains, "AND THEY RAISED ME HERE." In the present, Luffy casually drinks from a cup (SFX: *GULP*), simply saying, "HOH." Shiruku suddenly slams her hands on the table (SFX: *SLAM*), leaning in intensely. "UNDERSTAND?!" she demands. "I DON'T WANT TO SEE THE PEOPLE OF THIS TOWN WITH SAD FACES!!" Luffy looks at her, responding with a thoughtful "HMMM!!". In a close-up, Shiruku looks fiercely determined, declaring, "BECAUSE THEY ARE TREASURED PEOPLE TO ME," "EVEN IF I'M ALONE, I'LL FIGHT!!" She then asks Luffy, "THERE WERE PIRATES ON THAT SHIP, RIGHT!?".
