Ginny shouts for Kuma not to think and to just eat the fruit, while another voice demands that he hand one over too. Kuma bites into the Paw-Paw Fruit because Ivankov tells him he has to eat it if he wants to save the others. Ivankov, still trying to survive the stampede, calls the situation a victory over their captors if they can use the fruit to rescue people. Just as Kuma gains the power, a looming figure appears before him and someone cries, "Kuma?!" The sudden arrival changes the escape from a scramble over prizes into a confrontation with an even greater authority. Page 10: Saturn confronts Kuma directly, calling him the Buccaneer brat and saying he can either live as a slave or die because nothing else can be tolerated for someone of his kind. Saturn claims that this is what the tides of time have decided. Kuma, still a child, asks whether Saturn is somebody important and says he does not understand how someone can be born to be more or less important. Saturn asks what the point of being born is if Kuma was born to be a slave. Kuma answers that if he has some kind of power now, he is going to use it to save as many people as he possibly can, just like Nika. The narration says the fateful incident would soon be obscured by the shadows of history.
