Ivankov explains that this space was not always here; long ago a prisoner with the digging ability was held here and created it, like ants digging into a giant boulder. The place is located directly between Levels 5 and 6. Bon Clay is stunned to learn Level 6 exists. Iva says most people do not know about it: prisoners there are either on death row or serving life sentences in Level 6, Infinite Hell, for inhuman crimes covered up by the government. Page 10: Ivankov says Level 6 also contains criminals whose crimes were too inconvenient for the government to acknowledge. He adds that if Bon Clay had gone there earlier during his rampage, it would not have been so easy, because Impel Down has one more person of immense strength: the Head Guard. Shiryu of the Rain is said to be on par with Warden Magellan, and if Magellan is temporarily out of commission, the one to really worry about is Shiryu. Iva calls Magellan and Shiryu the backbone of Impel Down's impregnable walls.
