He says, "THIS HAT MEANS A LOT TO ME." In the top left panel, Luffy bites his lip, tears streaming down his face, uttering "...!!" In the middle right panel, Shanks walks away toward his ship, looking back over his shoulder. He says, "PROMISE THAT YOU'LL GIVE IT BACK TO ME SOMEDAY..." In the middle left panel, he finishes, "...WHEN YOU'VE BECOME A GREAT PIRATE." In the bottom right panel, Shanks is on his ship, smiling. He remarks, "HE ACTS JUST LIKE I DID WHEN I WAS A KID." Benn Beckman, smoking a cigarette, agrees, "THAT KID'S GONNA MAKE SOMETHING OF HIMSELF." Shanks replies, "YEAH..." In the bottom left panel, the pirate ship sails away with shouts of "WEIGH THE ANCHOR!" and "RAISE THE SAILS! WE'RE OFF WITH THE TIDE!!" A narration box reads, "LUFFY'S ADVENTURE......BEGINS 10 YEARS LATER FROM THIS VERY SAME SPOT." Page 52: The top panel shows a wide view of the ocean with large text reading "TA DA!" across the sky. A narration box states, "TEN YEARS LATER...". In the middle panel, Makino and Mayor Woop Slap stand on the shore with other villagers. Makino smiles and says, "WELL, HE'S FINALLY SETTING OUT, EH, MAYOR? I'LL MISS THAT RASCAL." Woop Slap, looking grumpy, replies, "BUT IF HE DOES BECOME A PIRATE, HE'LL BRING SHAME TO THE VILLAGE."
