Destruction

Heavy rain falls in vertical streaks around a massive, dark silhouette of Youpi's transformed body. Narration states: '...Youpi changed his form.' Another box reads: 'With a piercing roar...' The chapter title 'HUNTER x HUNTER 278: DESTRUCTION' appears at the top. In the next tier, a close-up shows Youpi's monstrous face with the label 'YUP! AT HIS BOILING POINT!!!' and a small box saying 'This change...'. Knuckle stares forward with a fierce, determined expression. Below, Knuckle turns his back to the viewer and drops into a low defensive stance amid swirling black energy. Narration continues: '...and switch his stance to a defensive form.' '...and it was clear...' 'It was as though Youpi had become an embodiment of evil.' A final box notes: '...was sufficient that Knuckle was forced to prepare for the worst.'

Knuckle braces himself in a low stance, one arm raised defensively as he stares up at the colossal, writhing mass of muscle and sinew that dominates the space above him. The enormous form twists and coils like a living weapon, its surface cracked and textured with raw power, a single glaring eye visible on one segment. The creature's body surges forward in a destructive arc, filling the panel with overwhelming presence. Narration boxes read: "...all too clear..." and "...that its focus was destruction alone."

A chaotic explosion of force erupts as multiple massive black limbs or appendages slam inward from all directions toward a central muscular figure. The figure is hunched and braced amid swirling impact lines, debris, and shockwaves. In the lower left corner a small silhouette is sent flying from the blast radius. A digital timer in the bottom right displays 0:02:12:39, marking the exact moment of the overwhelming assault.

A massive cylindrical tower erupts in a violent explosion, its stone walls cracking and shattering outward as thick black smoke and debris billow into the night sky. Large onomatopoeia "ゴゴゴゴゴゴ" and "ビビビビビ" shake across the upper half of the page. Below, amid falling rubble and dust, Knuckle lies prone on the ground, his body covered in scrapes and dirt. His face twists in fierce determination, eyes wide and teeth bared as he thrusts both arms forward with open palms. Knuckle is hurled through the air, body twisting from a powerful impact as motion lines streak behind him. In the next panel he crashes down amid flying rubble. On a staircase, Knuckle grips the steps tightly, shouting "HOLD ON!!" while grunting "NGH". Dialogue bubbles read: "NOT YET... DAMNIT ALL!", "DID YOU SMASH HIM... FOR ME...?", "HUH?!", and "DID YOU... GET HIM?". Close-up panels show Knuckle's determined profile as he says, "BUT I CAN'T HAVE YOU DYING ON ME BEFORE THEN, SO WE HAVE TO GET OUT OF HERE..." and "I'LL GET IT IN THE END, JUST YOU WAIT!". A blinding burst of light erupts in the upper left. Narration reads: 'Through this sensation of overwhelming mental stress, which he had never experienced before,'. Below, a grand domed building shatters violently, debris flying outward as the structure collapses. Narration continues: 'came to an understanding of the ability he possessed.' On the right, a colossal mass of writhing black spheres dominates the page, labeled 'Youpi...'. At its base, a suited man sprints desperately away from the expanding bulk, coat flapping behind him.

Narration states: 'It could feed upon his violent wrath, increasing both his physical size and the magnitude of his aura at an astonishing rate.' The background shows a city square with the damaged dome visible under a cloudy sky. Next panel: 'But immediately thereafter, he was overcome by a sudden reduction in physical size, and a profound sense of loss.' An explosion flashes in the distance. A black panel follows with the text: 'There was a pure ecstasy in this "destruction".' The bottom panel depicts a small hunched figure surrounded by smoke and large Japanese SFX characters 'ゴゴゴゴ' and 'ドドド', with a speech bubble containing '...'.

Knuckle stares intensely ahead, sweat on his face, as narration explains that with his vast experience he was able to analyze Youpi's condition with almost complete precision. An opening appears. In close-up profile Knuckle reflects that the power gained in return for taking that risk was ridiculously immense. He questions whether Youpi stupidly thought he could draw out such power without causing damage to himself, noting the ridiculous destructive force and wondering if Youpi pushed himself too hard. The scene shifts to a vast ruined landscape with a massive crater where a building once stood. Knuckle stands at the edge of the crater, back to the viewer, as narration states that the moment of weakness is exactly what he needs for his single attack. The plan Knuckle devised in an instant, considering Youpi's near trance-like state, was almost perfect. However, the sheer consumption of aura necessary for such an explosion should leave Youpi open for a decent interval, especially since he literally explodes when angered.

Smoke rises from the massive crater as narration states that Youpi's true worth lay after the explosion. However, the next panels show a figure falling through the air. Narration wonders what might have called the dregs of his self, pondering this selfish ability, and questions how this power could be used to aid the King. Caught in the void between a lingering sense of ecstasy and a profound despondency, the figure falls. The final panel is a stark black background with Youpi crouched in a fetal-like pose, arms wrapped around himself, labeled SELFLESSNESS.

Youpi floats in darkness, his long hair flowing as he reflects on his new state. Internal thoughts surface in oval bubbles: '...it is my duty to the king. I must find a way to advantageously control this new anger-fueled ability... I must not be distracted by my emotions...' A close-up reveals his intense face, brows furrowed and teeth gritted. Narration notes that facing a Youpi who had simultaneously obtained both calmness and passion was extremely high, and highlights the risk that Knuckle now bore.

Youpi's head is shown from behind as he speaks. He says he thinks he will respectfully decline because he is really not in the mood. A wild-eyed cat-like chimera ant with sharp teeth and striped markings appears in a burst panel, shouting that the opponent should be regretting running into them and urging them to come. In a wide desert landscape at night with distant ruins and smoke, Knuckle stands facing the cat-like figure who offers to be the first test subject for a new technique. The small furry character in the foreground exclaims about the new technique.

Close-ups show Knuckle's intense, sweat-streaked face glaring to the side. A cat-eared fighter stands in profile against a cloudy sky and addresses him directly. "IF YOU WANT HIM, WHY DON'T YOU LOOK FOR HIM?" the cat-eared fighter says. Nearby speech reveals the target: "THAT GUY WITH THE BIG PIPE AND THE SUNGLASSES... HE'S YOUR NAKAMA, RIGHT?" and "TO TELL THE TRUTH, YOU'RE NOT THE GUY I REALLY WANT TO BE FIGHTING, EITHER." A tiny figure peeks from the left. The scene shifts to a domed building with a spire; a figure inside a smokescreen declares, "GUY USES SMOKE, I SEE-HE SHUT HIMSELF UP IN THIS WEIRD SMOKESCREEN..." and "I FOUND HIM ALREADY! BUT IT WAS NO GOOD!!" The cat-eared fighter rings a loud bell, "DING-DI~NG!!" and challenges, "YOU'RE SAYING YOU WANT TO FIGHT ME AS A WARM-UP TO THE MAIN EVENT?" Knuckle answers from the right, "SO..." The final panel shows the cat-eared fighter looking weary: "WHAT A TIRING DAY..."

Knuckle lunges forward with a fierce expression, declaring he will soon demonstrate his power. The cat-eared fighter reacts with surprise while Knuckle continues, "THE THING IS...I THINK I MAY HAVE ACCIDENTALLY KILLED AN INNOCENT BYSTANDER FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE I INHERITED THIS PROFESSION..." and asks if the listener would hear him out. A close-up shows Knuckle sighing, "YOU'RE NOT A VERY GOOD LISTENER, ARE YOU?" The cat-eared fighter tilts their head with a question mark while a small character says "TILT." Knuckle's face appears again as he insists on being heard. In the wide final panel the cat-eared fighter dashes across open ground, proclaiming, "...YOU NEVER TAKE YOUR EYES OFF THE ENEMY IN THE HEAT OF -" while continuing, "IT WAS YOUR NAKAMA WHO TAUGHT ME A VALUABLE LESSON..." and laughing, "HAHAH!! YEAH, RIGHT!!" as Knuckle watches from the distance.

A colossal explosion erupts across the barren landscape, sending massive chunks of rock and debris flying in all directions from a blinding central point. A lone small figure stands calmly at the heart of the blast, unmoved amid the chaos of flying rubble and shockwaves. Below, an older man with slicked-back white hair and a stern expression gazes upward at the destruction. He speaks with a measured tone, acknowledging the futility of the moment. 'I SUPPOSE IT MADE LITTLE DIFFERENCE WHETHER YOU LOOKED OR NOT.' A smaller bubble follows with 'WELL ...'

A powerful figure with wild, flowing hair crouches amid shattered rock walls, one fist driven into the ground creating a spiderweb of cracks. The muscular form radiates raw energy as debris falls around. In a wider view below, a dragon-like creature perches on a broken branch overlooking a chasm. Two figures stand at the bottom: one small and composed, the other with long wavy hair. Speech bubbles convey their exchange. 'I DON'T MIND.' 'WOULD YOU HAVE PREFERRED I LEAVE HIM ALIVE?' A massive, winged dragon-like creature soars through turbulent black clouds, a tiny figure perched on its back. "HOW'S KILLUA?" a voice asks from the creature. "HM..." comes the reply. "HE'S GROWN UP." In the next tier, a long-haired woman with a serious expression says, "I SEE." Beside her, a spiky-haired man stands with arms crossed while another figure speaks: "I SUSPECT HE HAS REMOVED THAT NEEDLE OF ILLUMI'S, TOO."
