Franky asked Brook whether he knew how people would react to a talking skeleton trying to become friends with such a disgusting being. In chapter 459 Franky recounts asking Brook a rather rude question while attempting to recruit him as a comrade. Brook rejected the offer by denying the completeness of his own existence. Franky nevertheless became convinced that Brook was a real man after their conversation. Franky then challenges Brook's way of living by questioning whether Brook understands the shame his appearance would bring upon anyone who encounters him. Brook listens silently as Franky presses the point that such an appearance would stain others with shame even after escaping the Florian Triangle.
