Luffy went to Impel Down to rescue Ace before his execution. He hid aboard Hancock's Marine ship after leaving Amazon Lily and arrived at the prison four and a half days later ch. 525, p. 9. Once inside he followed Ace's Vivre Card through the levels while evading guards and traps ch. 526, p. 14. On Level 5 he met Ivankov, who agreed to help free Ace and declared, "We will go to save Ace Boy and then make our escape from Impel Down!!!" ch. 539, p. 11. Luffy shouted, "All right, just wait, Ace!!! I'm coming now!!!" after receiving adrenaline hormones to keep fighting ch. 539, p. 11. The group reached Level 6 only to find Ace already moved upward, prompting Luffy to continue the chase toward Marine Headquarters ch. 540, p. 10.
