Jinbe
Jinbe is a fishman who served as a Royal Shichibukai before resigning that title to align with the Straw Hat Pirates. He acts as helmsman for the crew after completing prior obligations tied to the Sun Pirates and Fishman Island protection. His allegiance shifted from government service to direct support of Luffy following events at Impel Down and Marine Headquarters where he declared his departure from the Shichibukai system. Jinbe is known for using fishman techniques in combat and for prioritizing the safety of his homeland while settling debts incurred during shared prison experiences with Ace and Luffy.
Throughout his path Jinbe maintained a stance against piracy in service of the government yet embraced pirate life to safeguard Fishman Island after Whitebeard's influence waned. He later fulfilled a promise to join the Straw Hats once duties with Big Mom concluded and blood donation to Luffy occurred on Fishman Island. His actions consistently reflect efforts to elevate fishman standing through strategic affiliations rather than personal gain alone.
Appearance
Jinbe possesses fishman features including a horned head and facial scars visible during close examination in prison settings. He wears a dark cloak with shoulder armor details and later appears in a patterned robe or black kimono with geometric patterns during key gatherings. His body shows heavy binding by thick chains and ropes in stone corridors while sweat drops and intense expressions mark moments of reflection or confrontation.12
Additional depictions show Jinbe seated cross-legged holding an open newspaper with one hand raised amid a group of fishmen observers. He stands with determined posture on rocky shores wearing a striped cloak and holding a staff while long hair and dark coat flow slightly in wind during departure scenes.34
Personality

He credits Whitebeard for bringing peace to Fishman Island after chaos from the Great Pirate Age led to abductions and sales of fishmen and mermaids. Jinbe expresses intent to be of use to Whitebeard and later claims personal protection over the island following that era.56
Jinbe thanks Luffy for the chance to save Ace and acknowledges a deep debt while offering thanks and apology for past incidents. He declares intent to fight alongside at Marine Headquarters and later promises to join the Straw Hats after fulfilling current duties despite gratitude expressed by the crew. Jinbe refuses immediate crew invitation citing ongoing position and necessary detours before affirming the future commitment.78
Abilities and powers
Jinbe lifts and carries a massive stone gate alone before diving into the sea to perform a technique that launches a ship on a massive wave using Kairyu Ippon Seoi. He surfaces after initiating the move and employs Fishman Karate against marines during escape sequences. Later he executes Mawashigeri kick on Wadatsumi generating shockwaves and prepares combined assaults with allies against large opponents.910
Jinbe activates Iron Body technique during forward charge and uses Fishman Jujutsu to grab and throw opponents with Ebb Tide Shoulder Throw.
