Chapter 108

Kurapika stands and warns, "WHAT I'M GOING TO EXPLAIN NOW WILL PLACE ME IN EVEN MORE DANGER." Leorio answers simply, "OK." with a small "TAP" sound as he steps. He then turns to Killua and says, "HEY, KILLUA." The scene shifts to Kurapika seated with his hands clasped, declaring, "I'LL START ANSWERING YOUR QUESTIONS." and "WHAT YOU ASK OF ME IS POSSIBLE." Close-ups show Gon and Killua listening intently. Kurapika continues explaining his ability: "TWO OF THEM ARE FOR ONLY ATTACKING THE RYODAN." and "EACH OF MY CHAINS HAS A DIFFERENT SKILL." A small inset shows two figures in a hallway, one chained.

Kurapika stands with a serious expression as he begins explaining his abilities. He raises his hand, showing the chains wrapped around his fingers. "Chain Jail," he declares. He explains that he always starts his offensive with the chain to capture and control his opponent with Zetsu. The technique is used to surround and restrain the one he captures. Kurapika continues, stating that if aimed at his opponent's heart, he may invent a law that the target must respect. He reveals that the original rule was simple: if you attack someone outside the Ryodan with a chain, you die. If you do not respect the rule, you die. The same chain, with the same principles, is now pointed at his own heart. Kurapika wonders if this rule could also apply to those who want to attack him. Lightning flashes in the background as he reflects on the implications.

Kurapika's face fills the panel as he admits he was not sure if applying the rule after attacking was possible at 100%. He clarifies that he can use Judgement Chain even against those who do not belong to the Ryodan. Every attack with Chain Jail must be directed only at members of the Ryodan. From the moment he defined the limits of his rules, he decided the rule on attacking might have an exception. Gon reacts with surprise. Kurapika reveals there is a condition required for this chain: he can only use it when his pupils become scarlet. It takes him some time to train himself, but he can change into that state by choice. A building looms in the rainy background as the conversation continues.

Kurapika sits with a serious expression, explaining the nature of his abilities. "My chain is materialized, and if it's separated from its fastening point, it loses almost all of its energy and force," he states. "In my normal status, with my strength, it would be impossible." He continues, "I'm a materialization type user. The origin of this state comes from my Nen." Close-up panels show his hand gripping the chain. "And with the added risk of death, I finally managed to do it. Thanks to the fact that the technique of my middle finger doesn't depart from its origin... But, to keep control of a remote blade and to impose a condition upon an opponent, I mainly use emission and manipulation." A large close-up of Kurapika's face appears as he adds, "Brought a solution to the specificity of my body. My little finger... When my eyes turn scarlet, I use the Nen of specification. All the skills I have at that moment become able to be accessed with maximum force and accuracy."

Gon looks uncertain. "I don't really understand, but..." Kurapika's expression hardens. "Of your determination." He holds out a small object. "You gave me the proof..." The scene shifts to a spacious room with striped walls. Leorio stands tall in a black suit, one hand resting on the couch. Killua and Kurapika sit on the large cushion; Killua leans forward with a serious face while Kurapika watches Leorio closely. Dramatic impact lines and the sound effect "TADAN" emphasize the moment. Leorio grins confidently. "There's nothing to stop us from erasing the contract when the mission is over, right?" Killua looks up at him. "Can you make three?"

In a bright hotel lobby with large windows and potted plants, Leorio stands beside the couch where Killua and Kurapika sit. He gestures as he speaks. "Let's go all the way. We talked it over, and in the end, if we collaborate..." A speech bubble near the boys reads "Killua, Leorio..." Close-up panels follow: Killua's spiky hair and intense eyes, then Leorio's face with striped glasses. Leorio asks, "Your answer?" Long hair strands sweep across the frame. A voice answers, "It's possible..." Another bubble adds, "For both of you."

A figure with crossed arms and an M emblem on their clothing speaks from the shadows. "THERE'S SOMETHING YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND. HOWEVER ..." In the next panels Gon stands wide-eyed as Kurapika continues explaining. "I KNOW. THEY WOULD DISCOVER WHO I AM, AND WHAT MY TECHNIQUES ARE. BUT WHAT IF I WERE CAPTURED BY PAKUNODA!" Leorio sits with head bowed while Killua watches nearby. Kurapika adds, "BUT I NEVER HAD ANY INTENTION OF DOING SO. I CAN AIM A NEN BLADE AT YOU ..." Kurapika warns, "DON'T LET OURSELVES BE TOUCHED BY PAKUNODA," FOR EXAMPLE. "YOU'RE THINKING OF A CONTRACT TO PROTECT MY SECRET?" A hand points forward. "THAT WOULD DEPRIVE YOU FROM COUNTER-ATTACKING. BUT THERE'S A SIDE EFFECT... IT DOESN'T REDUCE THE PROBABILITY TO ZERO. SUPPOSE SHE TOUCHES YOU, AND YOU DIE BECAUSE OF THE CONTRACT... PLUS, EVEN IF PAKUNODA TOUCHES YOU, IT'S NOT DEFINITE THAT SHE'D READ YOUR MEMORY. AND EVEN IF SHE WERE TO DO SO, IT'S POSSIBLE TO ELIMINATE HER BEFORE SHE PASSES THE INFORMATION ON." Gon stares in shock from the final panel.

Gon looks up with a serious expression and asks, "WHY DID YOU EXPLAIN ALL OF THAT TO ME, IF IT ONLY INCREASED YOUR RISKS..." Leorio stands beside him and replies, "BUT THEN... THAT'S TRUE." Kurapika, shown in close-up with long hair, answers, "IT'S TO THANK YOU, ALL OF YOU, FOR THE DETERMINATION YOU'VE SHOWN ME. GON." She continues, "AND EVEN IF YOU WERE TO REVEAL MY SECRET... I WOULD NEVER REGRET HAVING TOLD YOU." In the final panel Gon stands alone with a resolute face. "BECAUSE I KNOW I HAVE TRUE FRIENDS."

Kurapika stands in profile with a serious expression as Gon stares forward with wide eyes and declares, "MORE THAN A RISK OF DEATH." Gon continues, "SAYING STUFF LIKE THAT PUTS EVEN MORE PRESSURE ON US..." Killua, standing beside Kurapika, replies, "YOU'RE EXAGGERATING, KURAPIKA." A loud burst of laughter erupts as Leorio appears with spiky hair, shouting, "HEY! THAT'S NOTHING TO LAUGH ABOUT!" Gon reacts with surprise, "OH? REALLY?" while someone notes, "THAT'S PRECISELY WHAT I WANTED." Close-up shots show Gon looking thoughtful, Killua turning away, and Kurapika watching silently. Killua walks off with a small creature perched on his shoulder, saying, "BECAUSE I'M STARTING TO LIKE IT." He taps his chest and states, "COUNT ON ME." From behind, a voice calls, "BE CAREFUL, KILLUA!!" Killua responds, "TIME IS PRECIOUS." Then adds, "FINE... I'M GOING." A massive "BROOOM" sound effect explodes across a dark background with crackling lightning as Killua departs.

A ruined, dark building looms at the top of the page. Below, four vertical panels show members of the Phantom Troupe. Hisoka, with star and teardrop markings, rests his chin on his hand. Next to him, a blond figure smiles faintly. Pakunoda looks down with a serious gaze. Shizuku, wearing glasses, holds up a note with Japanese text. The narration reads: "THE ELEVEN LEGS OF THE SPIDER WILL BECOME HOME-SICK. BUT, AGAIN, FIVE MEMBERS WILL BE LOST. YOU SHOULD NOT ABANDON THE HAUNT, AS YOU ARE ALSO ONE OF THE LEGS." "YOU MUST NOT PHONE, BECAUSE AT THE MOST IMPORTANT TIME, IT WON'T WORK. YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO ANSWER THE PHONE EITHER, BECAUSE ONE OUT OF THREE, ON THE OTHER END WILL BE THE GOD OF DEATH." "A DAY OF OBSCURITY WHERE THE LIGHT HARDLY PASSES, SUBDUED TO TWO CHOICES IN YOUR SMALL ROOM, PRIDE OR TREACHERY ARE THE ONLY TWO ANSWERS YOU WILL FIND UNTIL THE GODS OF DEATH COME TO VISIT YOU." "IN THE FIELD COVERED WITH BLACK ITEMS, YOU WILL BE PLUNGED INTO ETERNAL REST. ONLY LONELINESS CAN FRIGHTEN YOU, BECAUSE NOTHING IS WORSE THAN BEING LESS THAN TWO." At the bottom, Machi says, "WE MUST AVOID MOVING INDIVIDUALLY." A voice replies, "NEXT WEEK, WE WILL MOVE THIS WAY." Another adds, "LET'S DECIDE THE GROUPS."

The Phantom Troupe gathers inside a ruined building. A large panel lists the groups: "KUROTOPI, FINKS, AND FEITANG" along with "SHIZUKU, PAKUNODA, MACHI" and "BONORENOLF, FRANKLIN, AND HISOIKA, YOU STAY HERE." Nobunaga declares, "NOBUNAGA, SHALNARK, AND I." Gon leans forward with a raised hand and asks, "MAY I SAY SOMETHING?" He points emphatically and shouts, "HEY, THAT'S NOT WHY I BROUGHT THEM UP!!" while another voice exclaims, "I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM FOR THE RYODAN !!" and "I FORGOT ABOUT DANCHOU!" The group reacts with surprise. Someone asks, "KIDS ?" A tall figure in a suit states, "IT'S TRUE THAT IN PRINCIPLE, THEY DON'T HAVE ANY RELATIONSHIP WITH THE ONE WE'RE SEARCHING FOR, BUT..." Another replies, "WE MUST NOT FORGET THAT THOSE KIDS KNOW OF THIS PLACE." Killua stands with a stern expression and says, "I DON'T LIKE IT." A close-up shows a character with a question mark, "?" The final wide panel reveals a rainy city skyline at night.

Rain falls heavily outside the broken windows. Gon insists, "I'LL CONVINCE THEM." A Ryodan member replies, "FROM WHAT YOU'VE TOLD ME, IT SOUNDS LIKE THEY DON'T WANT TO JOIN THE RYODAN, RIGHT?" Nobunaga leans in with a grin and says, "I'LL BRING THEM TO YOU. IF YOU WANT TO OBSERVE THEM..." while another voice protests, "DANCHOU! WE SHOULDN'T DO THAT!" Machi questions, "KUROTOPI, CAN YOU CREATE ANOTHER 10 TOWERS?" Kortopi answers from behind, "I CAN MAKE UP TO SO MORE WITH NO PROBLEM." Other members discuss safety and intuition: "JUST TO BE SAFE, WE'LL INCREASE THE NUMBER OF COPIES OF OUR HEAD-QUARTERS," "IT'S NOT IMPOSSIBLE THAT THOSE KIDS ARE AN IMPORTANT KID," and "I KNOW WE CAN RELY ON YOUR INTUITION." Machi asks, "WHAT DO YOU DISLIKE ABOUT THAT, MACHI?" The page ends on a black panel showing only the lower half of a face and an outstretched hand.

Under pouring rain, a hooded cloaked figure stands on a high vantage point, staring out with visible confusion. The figure mutters internally, "THAT'S ODD... IT'S NOT THE SAME AS IT WAS YESTERDAY...?! DID I GET THE LOCATION WRONG...? NO, THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE...!!!" A large panel reveals a sprawling cityscape of countless high-rise buildings stretching into the distance. The figure, now seen from behind on a wet rooftop ledge, exclaims, "THE NUMBER OF BUILDINGS HAS INCREASED!!!" followed by a stark "NO..." At the bottom of the page, a heavy door with a circular peephole is shown as the figure continues, "THE COPIES I MADE ARE LIKE 'EN.' IF ANYONE WERE TO ENTER ONE OF THE FAKES, I WOULD KNOW IMMEDIATELY."

A nearly blank white page holds only a single close-up panel at the bottom showing the wide, startled eyes and slightly open mouth of a young character with straight-cut bangs, conveying a sudden intense reaction.
