No. Luffy does not defeat Magellan in Impel Down. Their first fight leaves Luffy poisoned, and Magellan orders him sent to Level 5. Escaping the prison later is a separate outcome from winning that fight. [ch. 534; ch. 535, p. 11]
During the breakout, Luffy and Mr. 3 combine a Gear Third attack with a giant wax wall to push back Magellan's Venom Demon briefly. The poison starts eating through the barrier, so they use the opening to flee. Ivankov launches the escapees out over the water, and whale sharks summoned by Jimbei carry them toward the stolen ship. ch. 547, pp. 12–14
