Crocus was the Roger Pirates' doctor during their final voyage. Rayleigh explains that the crew recruited the doctor from Twin Capes because he could ease Roger's suffering from an incurable illness. Crocus spent three years with the crew. ch. 506, pp. 10–11
His medical role also connects to Laboon's story. Rayleigh says Crocus wanted to find a particular pirate crew, and the Straw Hats connect that search with Brook and the companions Laboon had been waiting for. Crocus's reason for joining and his job aboard the ship are related, but they are not the same question. ch. 506, p. 11
