Laboon
Laboon is a giant island whale from West Blue who followed the Rumbar Pirates into the Grand Line before being left at Twin Cape. The whale serves as a guardian figure at the entrance to the Grand Line while waiting for the return of his former companions. Laboon is known for repeatedly ramming the Red Line cliffs and for forming a new bond with the Straw Hat crew after an initial clash with Luffy.
The whale's long vigil spans over fifty years and centers on an unfulfilled promise made by the Rumbar Pirates. Laboon continues to believe his friends will return despite Crocus repeatedly explaining the truth. The Straw Hats later promise to complete a voyage around the world and reunite with Laboon at the cape.
Appearance
Laboon possesses a massive black-and-white patterned body covered in scars and barnacles that emphasize his enormous size compared to ships. The whale's large eye glares toward vessels while his head displays prominent scar-like cracks from repeated impacts against rock. A structure resembling a house sits anchored by massive harpoons on Laboon's back.12
Laboon's head shows multiple large scars and fresh wounds from bashing against the Red Line. The whale surfaces with heavily scarred head and visible eye breaking waves near rocky shore. Laboon's body partially submerges with dark shading on scars while floating near the lighthouse.34
Personality
Laboon stubbornly refuses to accept that the Rumbar Pirates will never return and continues bellowing while facing Reverse Mountain. The whale fears losing the meaning of his waiting and therefore ignores Crocus's repeated explanations of the truth. Laboon's roars echo through tunnels and shake rocks when distressed.56
Laboon reacts with loud cries when hearing music or promises of return and splashes playfully near the lighthouse after positive interactions. The whale attacks the lighthouse area after hearing the full truth yet later agrees to a future rematch with Luffy. Laboon releases a loud cry after Luffy's declaration of a future meeting.78
Abilities and powers
Laboon demonstrates the capacity to host internal structures including a long metal hallway and door accessed after being swallowed. This feature allows individuals such as Luffy to stand inside while the whale moves through the sea. The presence of the structure on his back remains visible when the whale surfaces with loud drag effects and stylized sound filling the sky.910
The whale generates powerful splashes and sound effects when breaching near wrecked ships or during attacks by giant squids. Crew members on deck react to the resulting tilt and debris while noting the scale of the emergence.911
