Chapter 1044 summary

A pulse echoes across Onigashima as Luffy revives on the rooftop, laughing despite his defeat while his heartbeat rings like drums of liberation. Allies throughout the island sense his return and regain hope. In Mary Geoise the Five Elders explain that the Gomu-Gomu Fruit is the Human-Human Fruit, Mythical Zoan Model Nika, whose awakening grants the power of the warrior of liberation. In the treasure repository Hiyori confronts Orochi, recounts Oden’s sacrifices, and reveals herself as Kozuki Hiyori. Orochi orders the remaining Kazenbo to burn her, but the flame ignites Orochi instead. Hiyori declares that the Kozuki clan always keeps its promises. On the roof Luffy awakens Gear Fifth, stretches the ground into a shield to rebound Kaido’s Blast Breath, and tells him they will now finish the fight.
