Chapter 1049 summary
Luffy and Kaido clash in the sky above Onigashima as Kaido refuses to accept that Luffy can change the world. Kaido recalls his youth in the Vodka Kingdom, his capture by marines, his time with the Rocks Pirates, and his later belief that brutality and survival of the fittest shape everything. In the present, Yamato urges Momonosuke to create flame clouds while Onigashima falls. Jinbe and Raizo release stored water from Zou to flood the dome and carry away the trapped fighters. Denjiro praises Hiyori for enduring years under Orochi. Momonosuke succeeds in forming new clouds as the island lands safely beside the Flower Capital. Luffy answers Kaido by declaring he wants a world where his friends can eat freely, then drives Kaido down with a massive blow. Kaido falls into the ground while lanterns rise carrying wishes for the Kozuki clan.
