One Piece Chapter 46: The Uninvited Guest

A large fish-shaped ship, the Baratie, floats on the open sea. A speech bubble declares, “HEY, YOU DAMN GEEZER.” Inside the restaurant, head chef Zeff, an older man with a long braided beard and chef’s hat, glares angrily while speaking: “YOU CAUSE TOO MUCH TROUBLE WITH THE GUESTS, AND IF THEY HAPPEN TO BE FEMALE, YOU DROOL ALL OVER THEM. SO JUST WHAT DO YOU MEAN EXACTLY WHEN YOU SAY THAT I’M NOT NEEDED!I” Sanji, the blond sous-chef with a cigarette, retorts sharply, “I’M THE ASSISTANT HEAD CHEF OF THIS PLACE.” In the dining area, Zeff continues, “AND AS YOU PROBABLY KNOW, NONE OF THE OTHER COOKS WANT YOU HERE AS WELL. SO WHETHER IT BE A PIRATE OR SOMETHING ELSE, IT’S JUST BETTER FOR YOU TO GET THE HELL OUT OF MY SHOP. YOU ALSO CAN’T COOK A DECENT MEAL TO SAVE YOUR LIFE. YOU’RE JUST UNNECESSARY BAGGAGE, HOLDING THIS RESTAURANT DOWN.” Patrons and staff watch the confrontation.

Sanji grabs Zeff by the collar in a burst of motion, shouting, “IGNORING ALL YOUR OTHER COMMENTS, IF THERE’S ONE THING I WON’T STAND FOR, IT’S SOMEONE INSULTING MY COOKING! NO MATTER WHAT YOU SAY, I’M STAYING HERE! GOT THAT!I SO THAT’S WHAT YOU WANTED TO SAY TO ME ALL ALONG, YOU DAMN GEEZER!I” Zeff yells back, “HOW DARE YOU GRAB THE COLLAR OF THE HEAD CHEF!” with impact SFX “ガバッ!!” and “キャアアア!!”. Zeff is sent flying backward with a pained “AGHH!”. In the aftermath, Zeff sits on the floor muttering “HMPH.” while Sanji, now seated, mutters “…DAMN IT!”. Luffy, wearing his straw hat, and other customers observe the scene from nearby tables.

Close-up on Sanji, face flushed with rage and sweat flying, as he yells, “BUT I’LL CONTINUE TO BE A COOK HERE, YOU HEAR!I YOU CAN TRY TO CHASE ME OUT ALL YOU WANT!” Zeff, still on the floor, retorts, “PRETTY MOUTHY FOR A DAMN GEEZER, AREN’T YOU!I” while other patrons react. In the background, a cook states, “I’LL LIVE FOR ANOTHER 100 YEARS. I AIN’T DYIN’. UNTIL THE DAY YOU DIE, AT THE VERY LEAST!” Luffy, standing nearby with a grin, comments to Sanji, “NOW WE CAN BE PIRATES… HAHA, ALRIGHT! HE GAVE YOU PERMISSION. YEAH, HE DEFINITELY WANTS TO BECOME THE NEXT HEAD CHEF… DID YOU HEAR SANJI JUST NOWI” Kitchen staff watch from the background as the tension lingers.

At the Baratie table Sanji pours a glass of Grand Marnier for the smiling short-haired woman while offering an apology. "AND THIS GLASS OF GRAND MARNIER." "FORGIVE ME FOR THAT RUCKUS JUST NOW. AS AN APOLOGY, PLEASE ENJOY THIS FRUIT MACEDONIA." The woman replies happily, "OH, THANK YOU SO MUCH!" In the next row Luffy, wearing his straw hat and checkered bandana, protests loudly, "THIS IS GENDER DISCRIMINATION! I'LL SUE, YOU LOVE-CRAZY COOK! WHAT ABOUT US!I" Sanji turns to the woman with a charming smile, "HEY! OH, IT'S NOTHING... YOU'RE SO NICE." At the same table Luffy continues to fume while Sanji retorts, "MMM, DELICIOUS! GET HIM YOURSELF... WHAT!I YOU WANNA START SOMETHING, IS THAT IT!I I AIN'T GONNA GO EASY ON YOU! GET 'IM, ZORO! I ALREADY GAVE YOU SOME TEA! YOU COULD AT LEAST SAY A WORD OF THANKS FOR THAT, PUNK!"

Luffy and Sanji glare at each other nose-to-nose. Luffy growls, "WELL THIS ONE AIN'T POISONED SO EAT UP, LONG-NOSE! I LEFT THEM ON PURPOSE BECAUSE I HATE MUSHROOMS. I WAS POISONED BY ONE WHEN I WAS A KID." Sanji snaps back, "BUT YOU STILL HAVE MUSHROOMS LEFT! FINISH IT! YOU HAVEN'T EVEN CLEARED AWAY MY PLATES." Nearby the short-haired woman and another female customer chat while Sanji serves them. The woman asks, "THE FOOD HERE'S JUST A TAP TOO EXPENSIVE FOR ME." Sanji answers smoothly, "YESI BY THE WAY, MR. COOK. JUST WHO THE HELL'S FIGHTING FOR YOU!I ANYTHING FOR YOU, MISS! PLEASE DON'T FIGHT JUST BECAUSE OF ME." Luffy yells in shock, "WHAT!I YOU'RE PAYING THOUGH!" Sanji then dramatically offers, "THANK YOU SO MUCH! THEN IT SHALL BE FREE OF CHARGE TO YOU, MISS!" with a large heart-eyed expression.

Sanji greets the arriving customer warmly, "AH, GOOD TO SEE YOU AGAIN, ROXANNE! IT'S BEEN AWHILE." Roxanne replies, "AH, SANJI! THIS TEA'S GREAT." Luffy sits nearby sipping tea while another patron calls out, "YOU'RE A REAL WITCH, AREN'T YA..." and "Gimme my fruit cup, you bastard!" Sanji answers a call with "YESSIR. BRING OUT THE HOT TOWELS WHEN THE CUSTOMERS COME IN." Suddenly Luffy is grabbed from behind by an angry chef who shouts, "HEY, ERRAND-BOY! THE HELL ARE YOU SITTING AROUND AND DRINKING TEA FOR!I" The bottom panel shows the Baratie restaurant ship on the open sea with a caption box reading "A SURPRISING INCIDENT TAKES PLACE" and a sign stating "7 DAYS LATER."

A massive impact shatters the sky with debris flying. The next panel reveals a tattered black flag bearing a skull with crossed hourglasses. "IT'S DON KRIEG'S PIRATE SHIP!" On the Baratie deck an older man with spiky hair and a black jacket stares in alarm while a skull banner flaps in the wind. A narration box explains, "A SKULL WITH TWO HOURGLASSES AT ITS SIDE, TO THREATEN THEIR ENEMIES..." Diners react in panic. The final wide panel shows the massive Krieg pirate ship bearing down on the Baratie with sails unfurled. Voices cry out, "WHY IS HE HERE!I THERE'S NO DOUBT ABOUT IT! THAT'S KRIEG'S FLAG!"

The cooks of the Baratie react in panic as a massive damaged ship approaches. Patty shouts, "WELL YOU BETTER BELIEVE IT! HIS SHIP'S COMING THIS WAY RIGHT NOW!" Carne yells, "IS COMING ALL THE WAY OUT HERE TO JUST TO AVENGE ONE OF HIS UNDERLINGS!I" Another voice cries, "I-IT CAN'T BE! THE FLEET ADMIRAL WHO COMMANDS OVER 5000 PIRATES..." Patty continues, "LOOK WHAT YOU DID, PATTY! THEY ACTUALLY CAME HERE! SO ARE YOU GONNA CHASE THEM OFF FOR US, MR. TOUGH GUY!I" Below deck, a crewman urges, "BRO, LET'S SET SAIL! WE DON'T WANNA DIE!" while another panics, "THIS IS REAL BAD! SHOULDN'T WE BE RUNNING AWAY!I" Sanji stands calmly with a cigarette, saying, "SOMEHOW I DON'T THINK THAT'S THE CASE... BUT IT IS STRANGE..." Luffy grins excitedly, "TALK ABOUT A HUGE SHIP! GIN MUST'VE COME HERE TO REPAY HIS DEBT TO YOU!" Zeff glares with crossed arms, his expression stern.

A massive, heavily damaged pirate galleon looms over the Baratie, its sails torn and hull battered. A large speech bubble declares, "THAT SHIP..." Below, another reads, "IT'S IN COMPLETE SHAMBLES...!" The restaurant ship floats amid debris and smaller boats as the ruined vessel towers above it, clearly on the verge of collapse.

Sanji and Luffy stand on the deck watching the chaos. Sanji remarks, "THEY MUST'VE BEEN CAUGHT UP IN SOME NATURAL DISASTER." Luffy replies, "THAT'S NO WORK OF HUMANS..." and adds, "TO TURN A GIGANTIC GALLEON OF THAT SIZE INTO THAT SAD STATE..." Inside the Baratie dining hall, tables are overturned, customers flee in panic, and impact sounds fill the air with "ギャー ギャー...!!" and "十十十キャ...!!" A customer shouts, "HUHI" while another reacts with "!I" and "どよ どよ...!" A cloaked figure stands silently in a doorway as the cooks and patrons stare in shock.

Don Krieg stands imposingly in the ruined doorway, his massive frame clad in a fur-trimmed coat and leopard-print shirt. A sign around his neck reads, "PIRATE FLEET ADMIRAL 'DON KRIEG'". He speaks, "IF IT'S MONEY YOU WANT, I'VE GOT PLENTY..." and "SORRY FOR INTRUDING... BUT COULD I HAVE SOME WATER... AND FOOD...I" His subordinate pants heavily beside him. Krieg's stern face fills the upper panel as he declares his demands.

Inside the Baratie dining hall, Luffy and Sanji watch the scene unfold. Luffy wonders aloud, "HE LOOKS LIKE HE'S STARVING." Sanji replies, "WONDER WHAT HAPPENED..." Nearby cooks react in shock: "THE HECKI THAT WEAK, WORN-OUT LOOKING GUY IS KRIEGI" "WHA..." Don Krieg suddenly collapses onto the floor with a heavy thud, the impact marked by "DON KRIEG!" and "UGH..." Gin drops to his knees beside his captain, desperately pleading to the restaurant staff, "HE'LL DIE AT THIS RATE! PLEASE SAVE MY CAPTAIN! I'M BEGGING YOU! PLEASE GIVE HIM SOME FOOD AND WATER!" Patrons and cooks look on with mixed expressions of surprise and disdain as Krieg lies motionless on the ground.

Don Krieg suddenly bursts into loud, mocking laughter, "AHAHAHAHA! PERFECT, JUST PERFECT!" while declaring, "SO THIS IS WHAT THE INFAMOUS OUTLAW DON KRIEG LOOKS LIKE!I" A cook points at him and shouts, "THIS IS THE PERFECT CHANCE FOR THE GOVERNMENT TO ARREST HIM! DON'T LET HIM HAVE A SINGLE MORSEL OF FOOD!" Another yells, "HEY! CONTACT THE MARINES IMMEDIATELY!" A customer with a dollar-sign headband insists, "WE HAVE MONEY THIS TIME! WE'RE PAYING CUSTOMERS!" The staff and patrons argue heatedly against helping, with one cook stating, "IF WE GIVE HIM FOOD AND HE RECOVERS, IT'S ONLY OBVIOUS THAT HE'LL ATTACK OUR RESTAURANT!" Others add, "IT'S ONLY RIGHT THAT HE SHOULD DIE AFTER ALL HE'S DONE!" and "THIS IS RETRIBUTION FOR ALL THE CRIMES HE'S COMMITTED!"

Don Krieg remains on the floor, weakly begging, "SO PLEASE... PLEASE HELP ME...!" He promises, "I WON'T DO ANYTHING. IF YOU GIVE ME FOOD, I PROMISE I'LL QUIETLY WITHDRAW FROM HERE...!" Gin continues pleading on his behalf, "I DON'T MIND IF IT'S LEFTOVERS OR WHATEVER! PLEASE, JUST GIVE ME ANYTHING!" and "A GREAT MAN LIKE YOU SHOULDN'T BE LOWERING HIS HEAD!" Patty stands over Krieg with arms crossed, unmoved. Krieg's subordinate cries, "D-DON KRIEG! PLEASE STOP! IT'S TOO SHAMEFUL...!" Patty then kicks Krieg aside, saying, "HEY MOVE IT, PATTY. TRYING TO EARN SOME SYMPATHY POINTSI" as onlookers react with shock and disapproval.

Sanji suddenly leaps into action, delivering a powerful kick that sends a tray of food flying through the air toward Gin. The impact creates dramatic motion lines and "!!!I" effects. Sanji calls out, "HERE, GIN. GIVE THIS TO HIM." Gin catches the tray gratefully, replying, "THANK YOU!" A shocked cook yells, "SANJI!" while another demands, "HEY SANJI! TAKE THAT FOOD BACK THIS INSTANT!" Sanji calmly responds to the protests with, "DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT KIND OF MAN HE IS!I" as the tray lands and Gin prepares to deliver the meal to the fallen Don Krieg amid the chaos of the restaurant.

A storyteller recounts Don Krieg's rise. "HE THEN KILLED THE MARINE OFFICER IN CHARGE OF THE SHIP AND TOOK IT OVER! THAT'S HOW HE BECAME A PIRATE!" Krieg stands triumphant, raising a Marine flag marked "MARINE" while gripping swords. "THE RULER OF EAST BLUE, THE KING OF DECEPTIONS! THAT'S DON KRIEG FOR YOU! HE STARTED OUT BY DISGUISING AS A MARINE AFTER ESCAPING FROM PRISON!" Krieg continues his rampage, attacking ports and ships under false Marine colors before switching to a white flag for surprise assaults. "HE'S A MAN WHO'LL STOP TO ANYTHING IN ORDER TO WIN! AND THAT'S HOW HE MADE HIS WAY TO THE TOP!" The narrator declares, "IS IT FOR THE GOOD OF THIS WORLD! LETTING A DEMON LIKE HIM STRIVE TO DEATH," while a woman listens nearby. "YOU REALLY THINK HE'LL JUST LEAVE AFTER EATING!I THAT'S UTTERLY IMPOSSIBLE FOR HIM! HIS STRENGTH AIN'T NO EXAGGERATION EITHER!"

Sanji delivers a devastating spinning kick to Don Krieg, sending the armored pirate flying backward with a massive impact. "!!!I" Krieg's eyes bulge in shock as debris flies. Nearby, the Baratie cooks react in horror: Patty gasps with sweat flying, another chef stares wide-eyed, and Monkey D. Luffy shouts in alarm. Krieg crashes hard onto the restaurant floor, sliding across it. Sanji stands calmly in the doorway and calls out, "SANJI!"

Don Krieg is struck again, yelling "GYAAAAAAA!" as the blow lands with a massive "ボンッ!!" impact. Krieg clutches his face, bloodied. "I GUIDED YOU HERE BECAUSE YOU PROMISED NOT TO HARM THIS RESTAURANT! D-DON KRIEG! THIS IS DIFFERENT FROM WHAT YOU PROMISED!" Gin shouts desperately. Krieg retorts while eating, "AHH, THAT WAS A GREAT MEAL. I FEEL LIKE MY NORMAL SELF AGAIN... NOT ONLY THAT, THAT MAN IS OUR SAVIOUR!" Sanji smirks knowingly, "SO HE REVEALS HIS FANGS AT LAST..." Luffy stares in shock and yells, "GIN!" Krieg then declares with a cold glare, "I'LL TAKE IT. NICE RESTAURANT YOU'VE GOT HERE."
