Chapter 613 summary
Vander Decken IX rages aboard his ship when no reply arrives from Princess Shirahoshi and hurls a rose-embossed axe at her. The axe rebounds and smashes through the Flying Pirates' vessel while Decken vows that Shirahoshi must choose death or marriage. At Hard-Shell Tower, Shirahoshi screams in terror at the sight of Luffy, whom she mistakes for an assassin, until the returning axe strikes her and Luffy redirects it. Palace guards rush in, accuse the Straw Hats of kidnapping mermaids, and announce that the crew will be confined to the dungeons, with Zoro already captured. Once the guards depart, Shirahoshi thanks Luffy for saving her and Megalo, explains Vander Decken's curse that has kept her locked inside for ten years, and answers his questions about her life. Luffy suggests they go outside for a walk and promises to protect her from further attacks. At the palace entrance, soldiers pursue Nami, Usopp, and Brook, who refuse to surrender, until Zoro breaks free from the dungeons and joins the fight.
