One Piece Chapter 65: Preparedness

Luffy stands on the ruined deck, smiling confidently despite his injuries. He declares, "THAT'S NOTHING BUT A BOMB ON A STICK!" The scene shifts to show Don Krieg's Great Battle Spear lying on the deck, its tip completely broken off. Luffy continues, "WITH THE SPEAR-TIP BROKEN, I'VE REDUCED ITS POWER BY HALF." Krieg stands opposite Luffy, holding the broken shaft of his weapon. He glares down at the young pirate and asks, "IS THAT WHAT YOU THINK?" with a heavy "DON!!" sound effect emphasizing his imposing presence.

Patty, Carne, and another Baratie cook watch the fight in absolute shock. They exclaim, "HE DID IT! HE REALLY IS AMAZING!" and "THE GREAT WAR SPEAR WOULD BE BROKEN!" One of them adds, "U... UNBELIEVABLE! TO THINK THAT DON KRIEG'S MOST POWERFUL WEAPON," as they process Luffy's feat. Krieg, however, remains unfazed. Holding his broken spear, he retorts, "CONSIDERING THAT EVEN A MERE BOMB ON A STICK CAN EASILY BLOW YOU AWAY, I'D SAY THAT I STILL HAVE MORE THAN ENOUGH POWER TO WIN!" Sanji, sweating and tense, observes Luffy's condition. He thinks, "...HE'S RIGHT, THAT ERRAND BOY SHOULD BE ON THE VERGE OF COLLAPSING! WITH THOSE WOUNDS, IF HE TAKES EVEN JUST ONE MORE BLAST FROM THAT SPEAR, HE'LL BE KILLED!" Krieg taunts Luffy further, "NOT ONLY THAT, YOU'RE BLEEDING ALL OVER AND EVEN TOOK 2 BLASTS FROM MY GREAT BATTLE SPEAR. SEEMS TO ME THAT YOU'RE BLUFFING." Luffy simply smirks and replies, "NUH UH!"

Zeff speaks up, his expression serious. "THEY'RE NO MATCH FOR THAT 'ONE SPECIAL SPEAR' THAT COMES FROM YOUR GUTS..." Sanji looks back at him, frustrated. "WITH ALL THOSE WEAPONS AND ARMOUR, IT'S ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO BEAT HIM! DAMN IT..." Zeff continues his thought, "BUT YOU KNOW, SANJI... NO MATTER HOW MANY HUNDREDS OF WEAPONS OR ARMOUR ONE IS EQUIPPED WITH, THE ONE WHO FEARS DEATH AND HESITATES FOR EVEN AN INSTANT SHALL FALL TO THEIR DOOM." Sanji looks confused, a question mark appearing near his head. Zeff elaborates, "ON THE PIRATES' BATTLEFIELD WHERE LIFE AND DEATH ARE DECIDED," prompting Sanji to sit down on the deck and ask, "WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY THAT?" Zeff looks toward the fight and says, "WITHIN THAT BOY, IF NOTHING ELSE,"

Luffy's face is shown up close, a wide, fearless grin on his face. Zeff's narration continues, "LIES NO HESITATION." Luffy chuckles, "HEE HEE." Sanji looks on, his eyes wide with realization and shock. Zeff explains further, "PERHAPS IT STEMS FROM HIS COMPLETE PREPAREDNESS TO SURVIVE NO MATTER WHAT," Sanji mutters, "CONVICTION...!?" Zeff finishes, "OR HIS CONVICTION THAT FEARS NO DEATH..." Meanwhile, Krieg swings his broken spear with a fierce "ZCHAA!!" sound effect, preparing to strike Luffy again.

Krieg brings his broken spear crashing down toward Luffy with immense force. He shouts, "SAY YOUR PRAYERS! FROM THE MOMENT YOU WENT AGAINST ME, YOUR DEATH WAS SET IN STONE!" Luffy, completely unfazed, looks up at the incoming attack and sticks his tongue out playfully. "AS IF!" he retorts. With a powerful "BO!!" and "O!!" sound effect, Luffy leaps high into the air, dodging the strike entirely. A small text bubble near his feet says "JUMP!" as he propels himself upward.

Luffy grabs onto the broken, dangling mast of the Baratie, swinging himself around it with a "BYON!" sound effect. He taunts Krieg from above, "HIT ME IF YOU CAN!" Krieg looks up, frustrated, and curses, "DAMN MONKEY...!" Luffy continues to swing, making playful monkey noises, "OOH OOH AH AH!" Krieg, enraged, swings his broken spear directly at the mast. With a massive "BOOM!!" sound effect, the heavy weapon smashes into the wooden structure, shattering it.

The mast splinters and breaks apart with a loud "CRACK!!" Luffy loses his grip and begins to fall, grunting "HRNGH!" A small text bubble says "FALL" as he tumbles through the air. Krieg watches silently as the massive piece of the mast crashes down onto the deck with a heavy "CRASH" sound effect. Amidst the debris, Luffy manages to grab onto a large, broken section of the mast. He strains, "NGHH!" as he secures his hold, with a "GRIP!" text bubble and a "ZUZU..." sound effect indicating the weight of the wood.

Luffy heaves the massive broken piece of the mast and hurls it directly at Krieg. "HAHH!" he shouts, with a "THROW" text bubble and a "SWISH" sound effect as the wood flies through the air. Krieg calmly raises his shoulder armor, revealing a hidden weapon barrel. "USELESS..." he mutters, as the weapon clicks into place with a "KCHINK!" sound effect. He fires a powerful blast from the shoulder cannon. The explosion obliterates the incoming mast piece in mid-air with a massive "BOOM!!" sound effect, leaving Luffy shocked in the background with a "!!?" reaction.

Luffy lands and immediately winds up both of his arms, pulling them back as far as they can go. He takes a deep breath, "BREATHE IN", with "SHHH" sound effects. "GOMU GOMU..." he begins. Sanji watches in disbelief, sweating. "A FLAMETHROWER!? HOW MANY WEAPONS DOES THIS GUY HAVE ON HIM!?" Luffy unleashes a furious barrage of punches, his fists blurring into a flurry of strikes. "GATTLING GUN!" he roars, as the rapid-fire punches rain down on Krieg with a continuous "DADA DADA DADA DADA" sound effect.

Krieg raises his spiked Wootz steel cape to block the incoming barrage. "FUTILE!" he declares. "ALL ATTACKS ARE FUTILE BEFORE MY WOOTZ STEEL ARMOUR!" He laughs arrogantly, "KUHAHAHAHA!" as Luffy's punches deflect off the spikes. Luffy finishes his attack and lands back on the deck with a "BAM!!" sound effect and a "LAND" text bubble. He stands up slowly, his face shadowed and determined. "AND..." he says, as a tense "ZUU..." sound effect fills the air. Krieg looks down at him, slightly surprised by Luffy's persistence.

Luffy pulls his arm back and delivers a single, devastatingly powerful punch directly into Krieg's spiked cape. "BULLET!" he shouts. The impact is massive, with a loud "BAM!!" sound effect. However, Luffy's bare fist strikes the sharp spikes of the Wootz steel armor. Blood splatters from his hand with a "SPLATTER!" text bubble. Krieg's eyes widen in shock behind his mask, exclaiming "DON!" Sanji, Patty, Carne, and the other cooks watch in horror, gasping "SSSNN..." as they witness Luffy intentionally injuring himself against the impenetrable defense.

Luffy pulls his bleeding fist back, crying out "AGH!" in pain. Krieg immediately retaliates, swinging his broken spear like a club. "YOU INSOLENT BRAT!" he yells. The heavy weapon slams into Luffy with a brutal "WHAM!!" sound effect, sending him crashing to the deck with a "THUD!!" Krieg stands over him, mocking his efforts. "ABSOLUTELY, COMPLETELY, UTTERLY FUTILE! AS IF THE GREATEST ARMOUR WOULD BREAK FROM HUNDREDS OF PUNCHES FROM A MERE MONKEY!" Despite the heavy blow, Luffy begins to push himself up from the ground. "I'D SAY I'M JUST ABOUT THERE..." he mutters, with a "MUKU..." sound effect as he struggles to his feet.

Krieg stands tall, his armor gleaming. He boasts, "CAN'T YOU SEE THAT THE GREATEST ARMOUR AND WEAPONRY, EQUATES TO THE GREATEST MIGHT!? AND THOSE WHO DEFY THE STRONG ARE DOOMED TO DIE, HAMMER BRAT." He raises his cape with a "SWISH!!" sound effect, revealing a barrage of small, round bombs hidden beneath it. The bombs rain down toward the Baratie's deck with a "BARARA...!" sound effect, threatening to destroy the entire platform. Luffy watches the explosives fall, his expression serious.

The Baratie cooks panic as the bombs fall. "AHH! HE'S GOING TO THROW THOSE BOMBS DOWN TO DESTROY THAT WHOLE PLATFORM! RUN AWAY, ERRAND BOY!" they scream. "BOMBS!?" Krieg laughs maniacally, "FUHAHAHAHA! IT'S OVER! ONLY THE STRONG SURVIVE!" Luffy, however, doesn't retreat. He stretches his arms far back behind him. "MEANING ME, OF COURSE!" he declares. "GOMU GOMU..." Sanji realizes what Luffy is doing and yells frantically, "YOU IDIOT, DON'T RUN TOWARDS HIM! GET AWAY! IT'S A TRAP!" Ignoring the warning, Luffy charges forward through the falling bombs with a rapid "DASH DASH DASH" sound effect.

Luffy launches himself forward, his arms still stretched back. "I THOUGHT YOU'D DO!" he shouts, as an explosion goes off right next to him with a "BOOM!!" Krieg watches him approach, unimpressed. "HOW USELESS... BECAUSE THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT..." Zeff's voice cuts in, his expression grim. "THERE ARE SOME THINGS YOU CAN'T OVERCOME WITH WILLPOWER ALONE..." Luffy flies directly at Krieg, his face fierce and determined. "BAZOOKA!!" he roars, bringing his stretched arms forward with incredible speed and a "SWISH!!" sound effect.

Luffy's Bazooka attack connects with Krieg's armor, but Krieg stands firm. "KUHAHAHAHA! YOUR ATTACK WAS USELESS AGAIN! THIS IS THE EXTENT OF YOUR STRENGTH!" Krieg laughs. However, a small "CRACK" appears on the Wootz steel armor. "BUT I'LL COMPLIMENT YOU FOR MANAGING TO PUT A SMALL CRACK IN MY ARMOUR!" Krieg says. He then unleashes a massive explosion at point-blank range. "NOW YOU CAN DIE HAPPILY!" he shouts. The blast engulfs Luffy completely. Sanji screams in horror, "ERRAND BOY!" As the smoke billows, Zeff's words echo once more: "PERHAPS IT STEMS FROM HIS COMPLETE PREPAREDNESS TO SURVIVE NO MATTER WHAT, OR HIS CONVICTION THAT FEARS NO DEATH..."

Suddenly, from within the thick smoke of the explosion, Luffy's arms stretch out. "GOMU GOMU..." he says, with a "STRETCH!" text bubble. His hands grab onto Krieg's head, pulling Luffy's body forward through the blast. Krieg is caught completely off guard, exclaiming "WHA!?" and "!!?". Luffy flies out of the smoke, his face battered but furious. He slams both of his palms directly into the cracked section of Krieg's Wootz steel chest plate. "BAZOOKA!!" he screams. The impact is devastating, accompanied by a massive "BAM!!" sound effect. The supposedly impenetrable armor shatters into pieces upon impact, leaving Krieg wide-eyed in shock.
