One Piece Chapter 63: I'm Not Gonna Die

The title page for Chapter 63, titled 'I'M NOT GONNA DIE'. The cover story is 'ADVENTURES OF THE RICHIE CREW VOL.2 "RICHIE CREW DEFEATED"'. The illustration shows the giant lion Richie lying defeated on the ground, groaning with a large bump on his head. Standing triumphantly over him are members of the Buggy Pirates. The story resumes on the wrecked fins of the Baratie. Sanji is sitting on the wooden debris, clutching his chest and coughing violently, 'UG... H... KAH!'. He looks up angrily. Luffy stands a few paces away, his back to Sanji, facing the distant figure of Don Krieg. Krieg's laughter echoes across the water, 'AHAHAHAHAHA!'. Sanji, still struggling, says, 'Feeling sorry for that useless sack of crap!?'. A close-up shows Sanji's face, bruised and bleeding from the mouth, as he repeats, 'Use-less... sack of crap!?'. Beside him, a close-up of Luffy shows a fierce, intense glare directed at Krieg.

Don Krieg stands confidently, gesturing with his hand as he speaks. 'Of course. What else would you call an useless idiot, who loses sight of his objectives and disobeys my orders?' On the deck, Gin is shown lying face down, coughing up blood and gasping, 'Cough! Gah!'. Krieg continues his cold rationale: 'Seeing as how he may repeat his failures again in the future, killing him right now on the spot is how I show my love.' In the water nearby, the Baratie cooks are shocked. Patty and Carne, along with others, look on in disbelief. 'I can't believe it! The Don is actually gonna kill our battle commander!' Another cook points and yells, 'Hey look! Our guys are fine!'. Patty and Carne react with surprise, 'Sanji!?'. Another cook realizes the situation, 'Ahh! That Krieg's battle commander or whatever must've gotten a full blast of that poison gas!'

Sanji urgently yells at the cooks in the water, 'Patty! Don't you have some antidote!?'. Patty, looking nervous, replies, 'U-uhh yeah... I think so but that's mainly for food poisoning...'. Sanji starts to argue, 'And besides, that guy's the enem...', but then cuts himself off, shouting angrily, 'Whatever! Just bring it over now!'. Zeff, standing tall with his arms crossed, intervenes. 'You idiot, just put that mask on him right now. It must contain at least a bit of an antidote of some sort.' He instructs them further, 'Take him up to the 2nd floor and have him breathe with that mask. If there's even the slightest chance of still saving him, then that's the first step to take.' Sanji quickly places the gas mask over Gin's face, looking down at him with concern. 'Don't you dare die, Gin...!' Luffy stands quietly in the background. Sanji then turns his anger back to the cooks, 'Patty! Carne! Move your asses!'. Patty and Carne scramble out of the water, startled. 'A-alright, you don't have to yell!' one says, while another asks, 'Me too?'.

Don Krieg smirks dismissively, 'Hmph, it's futile... He'll only hang around for another hour or so...'. Sanji and another cook are lifting Gin's limp body. Sanji looks down at Gin and says, 'Don't you dare let yourself, be killed by a guy like him!'. Luffy walks past them, his face set in determination. He tells Gin, 'Hang in there with sheer willpower! Got it!? Because I'll send him flying in the meanwhile.' Gin, barely conscious under the mask, weakly protests, 'N... no, stop... you can't... hope to... beat him...'. As Luffy continues walking forward, Sanji suddenly grabs Luffy's leg, stopping him. 'Hey! Calm down, you idiot! Charging directly at him is exactly what he wants! You'll get yourself killed!'

Luffy turns his head to look back at Sanji, his expression completely serious and unwavering. He states simply, 'I'm not gonna die.' Sanji looks up at him, surprised by his resolve. In the distance, Don Krieg aims his weaponized shield. Luffy yells out a challenge to Krieg, 'If you wanna shoot at me, then go ahead! Shoot as much as you want!'. Sanji, still holding Luffy's leg, shouts, 'Hey!'. Krieg smirks, preparing to fire. 'Fool... Nothing easier to kill than a worked up idiot...'. Sanji, frustrated, lets go of Luffy and yells, 'Fine! Do whatever the hell you want...!'

Luffy sprints forward along the broken mast extending over the water towards Krieg. Krieg watches him approach and mocks him, 'I've heard that even monkeys learn from their mistakes, but I guess you're even dumber than a monkey seeing as how you're trying to repeat your mistake a second time.' Luffy continues his charge, yelling back, 'Ain't that right, hammer boy!? I'm just bad at giving up, that's all.' Krieg unleashes a barrage of explosives from his shield. 'The ocean is your doom! But if you try to jump, my spears will make mincemeat out of you! Beyond the fins of that restaurant lies your grave!' The Baratie cooks watch in panic. 'He's shooting his bombs again!' 'He's gonna make a screen!' Luffy, running straight into the incoming fire, repeats Krieg's words, 'My grave!?'.

Massive explosions erupt in the water around the broken mast as Luffy runs across it. The blasts send huge plumes of water and debris into the air. Luffy is seen as a small figure navigating the chaotic explosions. A close-up shows the intricate, mechanical details of Don Krieg's weaponized shield as it fires. The shield features a skull and crossbones design in the center, surrounded by numerous gun barrels that are actively shooting projectiles.

The barrage of spiked projectiles flies through the air, creating a dense screen of explosions. Sanji watches the onslaught with wide eyes, gritting his teeth. 'He's hit!' someone yells. Don Krieg smirks from behind his shield, 'Haha... did he die after refusing to run away...?'. Suddenly, Luffy bursts through the thick smoke of the explosions. He is mid-air, his right arm stretching far back behind him, preparing for a massive punch. He looks fierce and focused as he closes the distance to Krieg.

Luffy swings his stretched arm forward with immense force. Don Krieg, seeing the attack coming, mutters, 'Annoying little...'. Instead of hitting Krieg directly, Luffy's fist slams into the water just in front of the mast. The impact creates a massive, towering splash of water that surges upwards, acting as a shield. Krieg is taken aback by the maneuver, exclaiming, 'Using my own trick against me...?'.

Don Krieg reacts quickly, raising his large cape to cover his entire body. 'It looks as if you're going to stop at nothing to hit me!' he says. The cape is revealed to be covered entirely in sharp, deadly spikes. 'Then why don't you try hitting my "Kenzan Cape!?"' (A note explains that Kenzan is a tool used in flower arrangement with many needles). Sanji watches in horror, 'That dirty son of a... It's a spike-covered cape!'. The Baratie cooks are equally dismayed, 'There's no way he can touch Krieg, with that thing protecting him!'. Despite the spiked defense, Luffy's stretched arm continues its trajectory straight towards Krieg.

Luffy yells out his attack name, 'GOMU GOMU...'. Don Krieg laughs confidently from behind his spiked cape, 'Haha... You can't lay a hand nor foot on me as long as I have my...'. Before Krieg can finish his sentence, Luffy's fist slams directly into the Kenzan Cape with devastating force. '...BULLET!!!' The impact is brutal. Luffy's bare fist punches straight into the sharp spikes, causing blood to splatter heavily from his hand. The sheer power of the punch bends the spikes and connects with Krieg.

The force of Luffy's punch sends Don Krieg flying backward. The impact is so powerful that it shatters parts of Krieg's spiked cape. The Baratie cooks and Sanji watch in absolute shock, their eyes bulging and jaws dropping. 'WHAAAT!?' they scream collectively. 'W... what a reckless guy!' Sanji exclaims. Another cook yells, 'He hit that with his... bare hands!'. Krieg crashes heavily onto the wooden deck, groaning in pain, 'OWWWW!'.

Don Krieg lies flat on his face on the ruined deck, completely knocked down. 'AGHHHHH!' he groans. A large text box declares, 'DON KRIEG WAS KNOCKED OUT!'. In the background, Luffy stands on the broken mast, his silhouette stark against the Baratie restaurant. A close-up shows Luffy's hand, heavily pierced and dripping with blood from punching the spikes. The Baratie cooks are in disbelief. 'What... what's with that guy!?' 'I've never even seen the Don on his knees before, much less lying flat on his face!' 'That kid just punched our Don right in the face! Not to mention it was through that spike-covered cape!'

Luffy stands triumphantly, holding up a broken, bloody spear tip he pulled from his hand. He looks down at the fallen Krieg. 'Now is this place, really my grave... or your grave...?' Luffy asks. He points the bloody spear tip directly at Krieg. 'Mine, or yours... WHICH IS IT!?' Luffy's face is fierce, covered in sweat and dirt, his hand dripping with blood. 'But don't you dare decide that question just by these measly spears or your stupid spiky cape! This ain't the place for me to die!'

Zeff stands on the balcony, observing the fight. 'Talk about reckless. Watch him carefully, Sanji...' he says. Down on the deck, Sanji sits beside Gin, who is lying down with the gas mask on. The other cooks are gathered around, trying to help. 'Hang in there!' 'Hey!' 'Come on, breathe! Breathe in that fresh air as much as possible!' 'Do you need any water!?' Patty suddenly suggests, 'Oh that's right! Do you want some of our restaurant's special pudding!?'. Carne angrily retorts, 'You idiot! What good would feeding a poisoned person more poison do!?'. Patty yells back, 'What do you mean by "poison!?" and look who's talkin'!'. Carne defends himself, 'Hey, my meat dishes are the world's best!'. Gin groans in pain, 'Aghh!'. Sanji looks down at him, 'Don't die!'. Zeff continues his observation, 'There are guys like him every now and then. Idiots that fight to the death once they decide on a goal... Fight to the death... A guy like him is the worst enemy you can face...'

Luffy stands alone on the wreckage, the wind blowing past him. Zeff's voice continues, 'Whether he wins or loses this match, I like guys like him..'. In the water, the Baratie cooks are cheering for Luffy. 'W-who's going to win this fight now...?' 'There's nothing to worry about!' 'You dumbass! That was just a fluke! A fluke!' 'E-errand boy!' 'You can do it!'. Suddenly, a dark, imposing figure begins to rise from the deck. Don Krieg is getting back up. Sanji watches intently, sweating. 'If this place...'

Luffy glares intensely at the rising figure of Don Krieg. '...isn't your grave...' Luffy says. Krieg stands up fully, his massive, armored body towering over Luffy's smaller frame. Krieg's face is shadowed, but his anger is palpable. '...then exactly... WHOSE IS IT!?' Krieg roars as he violently swings his spiked cape, launching a powerful attack towards Luffy.

Don Krieg swings his massive spiked cape with devastating force, aiming directly at Luffy. 'Grin... It has to be yours!' Krieg shouts, a menacing smile on his face. Luffy reacts instantly, bending his body backward at an extreme angle to dodge the sweeping spikes. 'NO, IT'S YOURS!' Luffy yells back, narrowly avoiding the deadly attack as the cape rushes past him.
