One Piece Chapter 68: The 4TH

On the open sea, the floating restaurant Baratie bobs on the waves under a bright sky. A large speech bubble wonders, “SANJI ALONG...I” In the next panel, Monkey D. Luffy stares forward with wide eyes and an open mouth, declaring in a speech bubble, “DON’T WANNA.” Large onomatopoeia “ドドド” and motion lines emphasize his refusal. Below, three Baratie cooks react in shock: one with a braided beard asks, “WHAT’S THE MEANING OF THISI DIDN’T YOU WANT A COOK FOR YOUR SHIP!I WHAT, ARE YOU NOT SATISFIED WITH HIMI” The other two cooks, one with a tall chef’s hat and another with a wide grin, yell in unison as a massive “WHATAAAAAT!I” speech bubble erupts beside them, accompanied by “ずどーん!!” sound effects and impact lines.

Inside the Baratie dining hall, Luffy sits on the floor holding a bowl while speaking with Zeff. Luffy declares, "SO EVEN IF YOU TELL ME TO TAKE HIM WITH ME, I'M NOT GONNA." Zeff replies from off-panel, "BUT HE SAID HE WANTS TO STAY HERE AND BE A COOK." Luffy continues, "NO, IT'S NOT LIKE I'M DISSATISFIED OR ANYTHING. I DO WANT HIM TO COME ALONG WITH ME." Zeff, shown in close-up with a stern expression, responds, "BUT THE PROBLEM IS WHETHER THAT REBELLIOUS BRAT WILL BE HONEST WITH HIMSELF OR NOT..." Luffy answers simply, "...WELL, YOU DO HAVE A POINT." A small panel shows Luffy saying "YUP." Zeff concludes, "SO YOU WON'T ACCEPT UNLESS HE SAYS IT HIMSELF." In the background, a waiter calls out "MORE SOUP." Sanji appears in the foreground with a cigarette, sweat drops flying as he thinks, then shouts "MORE SOUP." The final panel shows Sanji sitting outside on the deck, head down, as he mutters, "IT'S IMPOSSIBLE! HE'S TOO HARD HEADED FOR HIS OWN GOOD."

A massive explosion erupts from the Baratie restaurant, sending debris flying in all directions. Large sound effects read "ズバババババババ!!" and "ABABABA BABEBU BABABAD ABA!" alongside "DABA DBABA BABA BABA BA!" Sanji reacts in shock, eyes wide and sweat flying as he yells "DABA BABA BABA!" and "WHATI" A round-headed figure peers out a window, muttering "HMI" as impact lines and "KRAK KRAK" shake the frame. The view widens to show the damaged restaurant structure tilting violently. A fish flies through the air as someone screams "AGHHHH!" Large impact SFX "ザッ ボッ" and "!!I" mark the chaos.

A massive impact rocks the area as debris flies and someone screams "AGHHH!" In the next scene a large fish-like figure lies sprawled on the ground with Sanji collapsed beside it. Onlookers shout "A MERMAID!I WHAT IS THIS GUYI" and "SANJI!" The fish creature is revealed to be a man in a panda-shark costume. Luffy, sitting nearby with a sandwich, asks the bandaged man "WHAT'RE YOU DOING HERE ALONEI WHERE ARE THE OTHERSI AND WHAT ABOUT NAMII" The man replies weakly "AH... BROTHER LUFFY...!" Yosaku appears and yells "YOSAKU! YOU IDIOT, THIS IS JUST A GUY IN A PANDA SHARK. DID HE COME ALL THE WAY FROM FISHMAN ISLAND TO TRY OUR COOKINGI" The costumed man mutters "WHAT THE..."

Yosaku explains "WE'RE PRETTY SURE WE KNOW WHERE SHE'S HEADED. WE COULDN'T CATCH UP WITH SISTER NAMI BUT JUDGING FROM THE WAY SHE WAS HEADED," while Johnny adds "OH GOD. THEN LET'S GO AND BRING HER BACK." The brothers plead with Luffy: "PLEASE COME RIGHT AWAY! IN ANY CASE, WE NEED YOUR STRENGTH, BRO! WELL, I'LL FILL YOU IN ON THE DETAILS LATER!" They warn "THEN IT'S AN INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS PLACE...! WELL UMM... IF SHE'S HEADED TO WHERE WE THINK SHE'S HEADED TO," Luffy pauses with "WAIT." then declares "BUT FINE! LET'S GO!" and "OK! I DON'T KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON,"

Sanji stands with arms crossed, cigarette smoke curling upward. "I'LL GO TOO," he declares. From off-panel, a voice pleads, "TAKE ME WITH YOU." Luffy appears in the next panel, eyes wide and mouth slightly open with "....." then softly says "SANJI..." In the background of the bustling restaurant, a large chef spins around in shock, shouting "WHAT!I" Sanji turns back toward Luffy with a calm yet intense expression. "AFTER ALL, WE BOTH HAVE CRAZY DREAMS. SO I'LL TAG ALONG TO FULFILL MINE," he explains. He continues firmly, "I'LL ACCOMPANY YOU ON YOUR WAY TO BECOMING THE PIRATE KING."

Sanji glances sideways with a bandaged face, asking "SOUND GOODI OR BADI" In the next panel, Luffy stands tall and points forward with determination, declaring "I'LL BE THE COOK FOR YOUR SHIP." Luffy then throws his arms wide in pure joy, yelling "WOOHOO!" and "SOUNDS GREAT!" with motion lines bursting around him. Sanji stands near the damaged doorway, surrounded by impact effects and debris, saying "SORRY FOR ALL THE TROUBLE I PUT YOU THROUGH." He adds, "THAT'S HOW IT'S GONNA BE, GUYS." Luffy and another crewmate celebrate with linked arms and musical notes, shouting "ALRIGHT, BROTHER LUFFY!" and "YEAH!"

Inside the Baratie dining hall, Sanji glares furiously as voices carry from outside. "I COULD HEAR YOU CRYSTAL CLEAR FROM OUTSIDE, YOU NUMBSKULLS." "WHAT!I YOU KNEW!I" "WHAT!I" Zeff looms over him, arms crossed. "SORRY FOR MAKING YOU PUT ON THAT SHITTY PERFORMANCE. BUT NOW YOU DECIDE TO LEAVE HERE ON YOUR OWNI I WANTED TO THROW YOU OUTTA HERE WITH MY OWN TWO HANDS, HMPH, I DON'T LIKE IT ONE BIT!" Sanji snaps back, "WHY THE HELL DO YOU ALWAYS HAVE TO TALK LIKE THAT!I" Zeff retorts with a cold stare. Sanji presses, "SO... YOU WANTED TO KICK ME OUT THAT BADLY, HUHI IS THAT RIGHT, YOU DAMN GEEZERI" Zeff answers flatly, "ENJOY THE FEW YEARS YOU HAVE LEFT." Sanji smirks around his cigarette, "WHATEVER YOU SAY, GEEZER. HA..." Zeff's face hardens in close-up. "THERE HASN'T BEEN A SINGLE DAY WHEN I DIDN'T REGRET SAVING A BRAT LIKE YOU." Sanji fires back, "THAT'S EXACTLY RIGHT, LIL' EGGPLANT. I'VE ALWAYS HATED BRATS." Other chefs watch silently in the background as tension fills the room.

In the Baratie kitchen, Luffy and the cooks pack supplies. "HOW MANY DAYS ARE YOU GONNA BE SAILIN' FORI" "YUP, GIMME MORE MEAT." "YOU WANNA TAKE MORE!I" "DUNNO." Outside on the water, a small boat approaches the larger vessel. "OF COURSE. IT'S SANJI'S AFTER ALL." "CAN WE REALLY USE THISI" "WOAH, NICE BOAT." Inside a quiet room, Sanji lies on a bed with his hands behind his head. Zeff's voice echoes in memory: "SANJI, LET'S SAY FOR EXAMPLE..." Back in the kitchen, Sanji stands at the counter holding a steaming cup. "NO MATTER HOW VILLAINOUS THE SCUM, ESCAPED CONVICT, OR WHATNOT... AS LONG AS THEY COME HERE WANTING TO EAT BEYOND ALL ELSE..." The scene lingers on his thoughtful expression as faint sound effects mark the quiet moment.

Inside the grand dining hall of the floating restaurant, tables stand neatly arranged beneath a high ceiling. A voice wonders aloud, "THEN DOESN'T THAT MAKE ALL THE HASSLE WE GO THROUGH TO KEEP THIS PLACE RUNNING," while another questions from off-panel, "ALL THE WORTHWHILEI" In a close-up, Sanji leans back with a cigarette, muttering only "....." The scene shifts to the exterior of the massive ship-restaurant Baratie, its hull and rigging visible against the sky. A figure declares, "THAT'S RIGHT. EVEN ALL THAT TREASURE STILL WASN'T ENOUGH TO PAY FOR THIS SHIP. SO WE'LL BE WORKING OVERTIME FOR AWHILE!" Sanji calls out enthusiastically, "HEY OLD GEEZER, THIS IS AMAZING! SO THIS IS THE RESTAURANT ON THE SEAS!" Zeff replies calmly, "IT'S FINE SINCE I'LL BE HERE TO HELP!"

Sanji exhales smoke with a lazy "BLOW..." Zeff immediately scolds him, "STOP SMOKING. TOBACCO WILL DULL YOUR TONGUE." Coughing violently, Zeff adds, "COUGH COUGH COUGH!" Sanji smirks and taunts, "DID I HURT YOUR FEELINGS, LIL' EGG-PLANTI" Enraged, Zeff roars, "STOP CALLING ME A LITTLE EGGPLANT, YOU DAMN GEEZER!" Sanji laughs to himself, "HEH HEH... I'M ALL GROWN-UP NOW, RIGHT!I" with a defiant "(ニー!!)" In the large lower panel, a burly man with a wanted poster storms in shouting, "YOU SERIOUS ABOUT THIS WANTED AD ABOUT HIRING 'TUFF COOKS!I" Sanji throws his arms wide and yells, "YOOO! THIS THE PLACE THAT RED-LEG ZEFF IS SUPPOSEDLY RUNNING!I"

Inside the Baratie, chaos erupts as Sanji is slammed face-first into a table by a furious customer. "OWNER ZEFF! SANJI BEAT UP ANOTHER CUSTOMER AGAIN!" yells a voice. Sanji snarls back, "TRY SAYIN' THAT AGAIN, YOU PUNK!" A wide-eyed patron asks, "HEY, DID YOU HEARI THE OWNER OF THIS PLACE IS A WASHED-UP PIRATE." The customer roars, "YOU NINCOMPOOP! YOU EXPECT ME TO SERVE THIS CRAP TO OUR GUESTS!I YOU CAN EAT THIS INSTEAD!" and smashes Sanji down with a loud "バキッ!!!" Don Krieg, the armored pirate captain, bellows at the cooks, "THEN HAND OVER ALL YOUR FOOD!" Zeff shouts, "ALRIGHT, YOU DAMN COOKS! IF YOU FEAR FOR YOUR LIVES..." as the cooks panic. "WE GOTTA STOP OWNER ZEFF!" "STOP AGITATIN' MY COOKS, YOU BASTARD!" Krieg's men are hurled through the air amid cries of "AHHH!" and "AGHHH!" In the large bottom panel, the cooks stand ready with weapons and kitchen tools. One declares, "NOT SURE, I THINK I MISSED THAT!" while another asks, "WHAT'D HE SAYI"

Outside on the open sea, the massive fish-shaped Baratie restaurant ship floats calmly under scattered clouds. A speech bubble reads, "BROTHER COOK IS SURE RUNNING LATE." On the wooden deck, the line of chefs in tall hats and aprons stand waiting. One announces, "AH, HE'S HERE." Sanji, wearing his black suit and hat, walks up the gangplank from the left, his back to the viewer. The cooks turn to face him. In the final close-up panel, Sanji's face appears with a serious, slightly annoyed expression, eyes half-lidded and a small swirl of hair visible on his forehead.

In the Baratie dining area, two chefs launch a furious assault on Sanji. One swings a massive spiked mace while the other brandishes a blade, both lunging at the blond cook who stands motionless with a cigarette. A sharp "!!I" reaction cuts through the air. The larger chef, Patty, roars in close-up, "DIE, SANJI!" while the other adds, "THIS IS PAYBACK FOR ALL THOSE YEARS!" Sanji is slammed to the floor, bloodied and beaten, as the surrounding cooks watch. Carne stands over him and declares, "TOLD YA YOU CAN'T BEAT HIM." Sanji slowly rises and walks away across the wooden floor, each step marked by repeated dragging SFX "スラ... スラ..." The chefs remain frozen in place, staring after him.

On the deck of the Baratie, a mustached chef leans on the railing and calls out, "HEY, SANJI." Sanji, carrying a duffel bag, turns slightly as a young boy asks, "JUST LIKE THATI WHAT ABOUT SAYING GOOD-BYESI" Sanji replies calmly, "IT'S FINE." He then says, "LET'S GO." In a wide shot before the restaurant sign reading "RESTAURANT BARATIE," Sanji looks back over his shoulder and tells the chefs, "DON'T CATCH A COLD." The cooks react with shock; one chef's face twists in disbelief as a massive "ZOWWFF!" sound effect erupts. Nearby, Luffy grins widely while the others stand stunned. Sanji's expression remains cool despite the emotional weight of the departure.

Sanji stands with his back to the viewer in front of the massive Baratie ship, arms raised in a dramatic pose. "FOR TAKING CARE OF ME FOR SO DAMN LONG!" he declares. "I'M ETERNALLY GRATEFUL," he continues as the cooks watch from the deck and entrance. In a close-up, tears stream down his face as he adds, "THE DEBT I OWE YOU!" and "I SHALL NEVER FORGET FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE..."

Zeff's face twists in rage and grief as he roars "YOU BAS-TARD!" while Sanji is sent flying. The cooks erupt in tears with massive sound effects "うわーんわんわん!!" One shouts "REAL LONELY, YOU HEAR!I" Another yells "GODDAMN IT! WE'RE GONNA BE LONELY WITHOUT YA!" From the ship, the group cries "YOU'RE MAKING US CRY, DAMMIT!" and "I'LL MISS YOU!" as Sanji soars away with "うわああああ" echoing. A final panel shows a teary-eyed cook with "..." and "!!"

An elderly chef with a bandaged head sits alone, muttering, "MEN SHOULD SAY THEIR GOOD-BYES SILENTLY." and "DAMN IDIOTS..." Nearby, a tear-streaked face covered in bandages sweats heavily. In a massive close-up, Sanji cries openly, shouting "YOU GOOD FOR NOTHING BAST-ARDS!" and "LET'S MEET AGAIN ONE DAY!" The Baratie restaurant ship stands in the background as a smaller vessel pulls away under full sail, crew waving. Luffy leans out with a wide grin and yells, "ALRIGHT! LET'S SET SAIL!" Sound effects and motion lines emphasize the emotional departure and the ship's departure into the open sea.
