One Piece Chapter 134: Dr. Kureha

A stern man with a fur collar demands, "DO YOU PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT WAPOL!I" Someone off-panel reacts, "WHAT...!I" A blonde woman recalls, "HE'S THE SAME MAN I MET, BACK WHEN I WAS A LITTLE GIRL AND FATHER TOOK ME TO THE COUNCIL OF KINGS." A bearded man with goggles adds, "'COURSE, I WAS THE ONE WHO CHASED HIM AWAY. KNOW HIMI WE DON'T KNOW OTHER THAN HIM BEING THE PIRATE WHO ATTACKED OUR SHIP...!" The blonde continues, "YES, I REMEMBER CLEARLY NOW... BUT NOW THAT I THINK ABOUT IT, HE DID SAY SOMETHING ABOUT DRUM KINGDOM..." The stern man sweats, "ARE YOU TELLING THE TRUTH...!I" In a snowy street scene the blonde states, "WE CAME ACROSS HIM ONLY YESTERDAY WHILE ON OUR WAY HERE." A seated man replies, "I-IN ANY CASE! WE DID MEET WAPOL!" The stern man asks, "AH- UMM... COUNCIL OF KINGS...!I WHO ARE YOU EXACTLY...I"

The seated man explains, "HIM BEING A PIRATE IS JUST A DISGUISE. HE'S MOST LIKELY BEEN LOITERING AROUND THE OCEANS HERE WAITING FOR THE RIGHT TIME TO COME BACK." Vivi questions, "WHAT DOES THIS ALL MEANI YOU SAID THAT THE COUNTRY WAS DESTROYED BUT THEN WHY IS THE KING ALIVE AND WELL BEING A PIRATE OUT OF ALL THINGS!I" Dalton snaps, "WRONG!" A close-up shows him thinking, "UNABLE TO FIGHT OFF...!I" Vivi realizes, "SO THEN... WAPOL AND HIS MEN WERE DRIVEN OUT OF THIS ISLAND AND FORCED TO BE PIRATES, AFTER BEING UNABLE TO FIGHT OFF THE BLACKBEARD PIRATES..." She asks in shock, "WHATI THE KING AND HIS SOLDIERS DIDN'T EVEN MOUNT A RESISTANCE!" The seated man adds, "BACK WHEN THE PIRATES ATTACKED THIS COUNTRY..."

Dalton continues with a grim expression, "BY IMMEDIATELY TAKING OFF TO THE SEAS FASTER THAN ANYONE ELSE!" Narration states, "ONCE WAPOL REALIZED JUST HOW STRONG THE PIRATES WERE, HE SIMPLY ABANDONED HIS OWN COUNTRY." Vivi shouts in fury, "AND HE CALLS HIMSELF A KING!I" Narration adds, "ALL THE CITIZENS WERE DISMAYED BY SUCH AN ACT OF COWARDICE COMMITTED BY THEIR OWN KING..." The pirate with goggles looks on and says, "VIVI..." Vivi stands with clenched fists as the pirate remarks, "IT'S BEYOND CRUEL... HOW COULD THE KING JUST ABANDON HIS PEOPLE..."

Snow falls over the rebuilt town as three figures stand amid the rooftops. A voice states, "BUT THANKS TO THAT, WAPOL'S REIGN OF TYRANNY FINALLY CAME TO AN END." Another replies, "EXACTLY..." In the next panels, a man with a fur collar declares, "THIS ISLAND NOW BELONGS TO THOSE OF US WHO REMAINED BEHIND...! THE TOWNS ARE SLOWLY BEGINNING TO RECOVER, AND WE'RE NOW IN THE MIDST OF FORGING A NEW COUNTRY." A serious figure warns, "AT THIS TIME OF GREAT UNREST AND UNEASINESS, WE MUST PREVENT THAT AT ALL COSTS! THAT IS WHY THE THING WE DREAD THE MOST IS WAPOL'S RETURN." Dalton, armored and resolute, raises his fist and shouts, "WE MUST...! FOR THE PURPOSE OF CREATING A BETTER COUNTRY FOR A BETTER TOMORROW, WE MUST...!"

Usopp and Sanji trudge through the snowy mountain path. Usopp complains, "WHY THE HELL ARE YOU WEARING SANDALS IN THIS WEATHERI JUST LOOKING AT 'EM IS MAKING ME FEEL COLD!" Sanji answers, "IT'S GETTING PRETTY COLD WITH ALL THIS WIND..." A loud "トコトコトコ" echoes as something approaches. A massive black creature looms, growling "GRRRR..." Sanji retorts, "OH IS ITI IT'S CALLED 'POLICY.'" The beast growls again while Usopp and Sanji step back. Later, Sanji sits smoking and explains, "BECAUSE THEY'LL DIE IF THEY DO," when asked why people in snowy countries don't sleep. Usopp reacts in shock, "IN ANY CASE, DID YA KNOW THAT PEOPLE IN SNOWY COUNTRIES DON'T SLEEPI"

Usopp is sent flying by a powerful blow as a giant white rabbit roars "RAA-WWR!" and "GRRR!" Usopp yells, "WHO, USOPPI" The rabbit snaps, "IT'S TRUE. THAT'S WHAT A GUY ONCE TOLD ME. THAT'S THE DUMBEST THING I'VE EVER HEARD." Sanji kicks another rabbit with a "ガリブッ!!" impact while shouting, "YOU'RE RIGHT! THEN IT MUST BE WHEN IT'S TIME FOR HIM TO DIE..." Usopp cries, "THAT'S EVEN MORE RIDICULOUS!" More rabbits attack with "GRRRRR!" and "CRACK..." sounds. One rabbit asks, "DID YOU KNOW THE WOMEN OF SNOWY COUNTRIES ALL HAVE BEAUTIFUL SMOOTH SKINI" as the fight intensifies with "ドスゥゥゥン!!" and impact effects.

The Lapahns swarm Usopp and Sanji in the snow. One rabbit growls, "HAVING SMOOTH WHITE SKIN IS THE TRADEMARK OF WOMEN IN SNOWY COUNTRIES. WHY WHITEI" Sanji kicks back yelling, "YOU'RE PRETTY STUPID, Y'KNOW. YOU'RE THE LAST PERSON I WANT TO HEAR THAT FROM!" while Usopp is chased with multiple "RAWR!" and "GRRR" sounds. A rabbit explains, "THAT'S BECAUSE THE COLOUR OF THE SNOW SEEPS INSIDE THEIR SKIN." Usopp swings his weapon in panic, shouting, "WHAT'S UP WITH THAT RABBITI WOULD YOU FREAKIN' KNOCK IT OUT ALREADY!" as the battle rages with motion lines and impact effects like "ドゴッ" and "シッ".

Sanji and Luffy carry Nami through heavy snow. Sanji warns, "HEY, LUFFY. BE MORE CAREFUL WHEN RUNNING OR NAMI'S BODY WON'T HOLD UP." Luffy replies, "THE SNOW'S REAL THICK 'ROUND HERE. WE'LL GET YOU TO A DOCTOR SOON, NAMI." They press forward as snow falls. In the next panel Sanji snaps, "THE HELL!I" while Luffy looks puzzled, "HMI" A massive roar erupts: "ゴオオオオオオオオ..." revealing several enormous white rabbit-like creatures with bear-like bodies. Luffy stares and asks, "WHAT ARE THESE THINGS...I" Sanji notes, "THEY'RE WHITE AND BIG SO THEY GOTTA BE POLAR BEARS."

The giant creatures continue roaring. Villagers react in shock: "BODY OF BEARS!I" Dalton stands among them, saying, "YES... AGILE AS NORMAL RABBITS BUT WITH THE BODY OF BEARS. AND THEY HAPPEN TO HUNT IN PACKS AS WELL." He adds, "I JUST HOPE THEY DON'T COME ACROSS ANY LAPINS..." A villager worries, "I WONDER IF THEY'RE ALRIGHT..." Dalton turns and is greeted with "DALTON!" and "WELL GOOD, BECAUSE SHE JUST CAME DOWN TO THE NEIGHBOURING VILLAGE!" Dalton replies, "YES, BUT THE PATIENT HAS ALREADY-" A massive impact sound "ゴゴゴーン!!" shakes the area as everyone reacts in alarm, "WHAT!I" and "A-ARE THEY REALLY THAT BIG...I"

On a ship at sea, Chess reports to Wapol, "WHAT IS IT, CHESS!I DID YOU SPOT THOSE PIRATES FROM YESTERDAY!I" Wapol peers through binoculars. The crew announces, "AFTER MANY MONTHS OF PERSEVERANCE, WE'VE FINALLY RETURNED AT LAST." Wapol reacts with shock, "WHAT!I" A massive splash and triumphant roar "うおおおおおおお!!" accompany the declaration, "WE'VE REACHED OUR HOMELAND, DRUM ISLAND!" The ship sails toward the snowy island as the crew cheers.

In the neighboring village of Cocoa Weed, a child cries loudly inside a building labeled "STOOL." A man shouts, "DO SOMETHING 'BOUT YOUR DAMN KID ALREADY! HIS CRYING IS GETTING ON MY NERVES!" Another voice calls, "HEY, BARKEEP!" The apology comes, "SORRY ABOUT THE DISTURBANCE, SIR." Inside, an old man grabs the crying child and yells, "IF YOU DON'T STOP YOUR CRYING, I'LL HAVE YOU STAND OUTSIDE! SAY SOMETHING!" A man named Tamachibi asks, "TAMACHIBI! WHAT IS IT, ARE YOU HURT SOMEWHEREI" The narration notes, "EVEN THOUGH A CHILD'S UNRELENTING CRY IS THE SUREST SIGN OF A DISEASE..." while Chopper is mentioned nearby.

In the snowy streets of the town, townsfolk react with shock as a massive impact shakes the area. Bubbles and debris fly while someone remarks, "IT SEEMS WE'VE GOT QUITE THE CRUEL FATHER." A figure in a heavy coat stands near a small black creature, warning "STAND BACK." Another voice notes, "LOOKS LIKE IT'S COMING FROM HERE..." Suddenly a silhouette bursts through a door or wall with dramatic motion lines, shouting "DON'T MIND THE INTRUSION!" as huge stylized impact effects and "!!!!I" erupt across the panel.

Dr. Kureha looms large with a wild grin, laughing "HEEEEEHEE HEEHEE!" while asking "HAPPY, PAPPYI" She strikes a confident pose in the center of town as shocked onlookers stare. A sign reads "MASTER OF DOCTORS DR. KUREHA AGE 139." Townspeople shout "D-D-D-D-D-DOCTOR KUREHA!" A label identifies the reindeer beside her as "DR.KUREHA'S BELOVED REINDEER TONY TONY CHOPPER."

Inside a bustling restaurant, patrons react in alarm. A large man yells "WE DIDN'T EVEN ASK!" while another voice demands "YOU WANT TO KNOW THE SECRET OF MY YOUTH!I" A woman with long hair turns and asks "WHATI" then "SHALL I TREAT HIMI" An old man protests "I'M STILL ONLY 139!" and "TO THINK THAT'S ACTUALLY A 140 YEAR-OLD GRANNY..." Nearby a child is examined as someone notes "BUT HE'S NOT EVEN SICK!" Dr. Kureha, now wearing goggles, smiles and asks "OHI AND ARE YOU A DOCTORI" while a voice calls "FINE. LET'S GO, CHOPPER." A man at the counter shouts "W-WAIT!"

Dr. Kureha examines a boy at a table while townsfolk watch. She states "NO FEVER BUT LOOKS LIKE WE'VE GOT A PYOGENIC INFLAMMATION ON THE LEG." The boy cries "MY HANDS HURT..." and "THE HELL ARE YOU DOING TO MY SON!I" Dr. Kureha replies "I ONLY LIGHTLY TOUCHED HIS LEG BUT HIS LIMBS SEEM TO BE IN QUITE A BIT OF PAIN." She adds "BUT YOU FORGOT ABOUT HOW MUCH YOUR HANDS HURT, DIDN'T YOUI HEE HEE HEE!" and "FINE, I'LL STOP. HAPPY, PAPPYI NOW STAY STILL FOR A MOMENT." A man worries "MUST BE A BACTERIAL INFECTION IN THE BONES." Dr. Kureha concludes "BUT HE WAS ON THE VERGE OF DEATH. DON'T WORRY, YOUR BOY'LL RECOVER." Another voice shouts "CHOPPER! GET ME MY ANTIBIOTICS!" while someone asks "W-WHAT'S WRONG WITH MY BOY, DOCTORI"

Dr. Kureha works on the injured reindeer boy, tying bandages tightly around his leg. "JUST TIE SOME BANDAGES TIGHTLY AROUND HIS LEG AFTERWARDS," she says. "MY DRUGS ARE QUITE EFFECTIVE SO THIS IS ENOUGH FOR HIS TREATMENT." The boy screams in pain, "AHHHHH!" as she prepares a shot. "NOW FOR A SHOT." An onlooker yells, "YOU'RE KILLING MY BOY!" Kureha snaps back, "STAY STILL WHILE I MAKE A SMALL INCISION." and "SHOULDN'T YOU BE USING ANAESTHETICS!I" The boy cries, "GYAAA!" Later, Kureha demands payment: "WHAT ELSE... SOME FOOD, RUM, AND... 50% OF ALL THE MONEY YOU HAVE." She adds, "AS FOR MY PAYMENT... AH, THAT'S RIGHT. I WAS RUNNING LOW ON GARBAGE BAGS AND TOILET PAPER." Dalton protests, "DON'T LET HER CON YOU! WHAT'S ABOUT THIS BULL BEING ON THE VERGE OF DEATH!I" and "YOU'RE TAKING 50% OF MY MONEY!I" Kureha retorts, "HE WAS PROBABLY ONLY CRYING BECAUSE HE TRIPPED OR SOMETHING." and "YOU THINK WE DON'T KNOW ANY BETTER JUST BECAUSE YOU'RE A DOCTOR AND WE'RE NOT!I" Chopper stands nearby as she orders, "CARRY THESE OUT. CHOPPER."

Dalton shouts at Kureha, "YOU'RE JUST TAKING ADVANTAGE OF PEOPLE'S WEAKNESSES! YOU 140 YEAR-OLD SENILE HAG!" Kureha laughs, "AIN'T THAT RIGHT!I" Chopper, in his hat, growls, "GRR!" and tells the others, "THEY'RE NOTHING BUT BRATS WHO DON'T KNOW ANY BETTER. STOP IT, CHOPPER." A man says, "GRANNY..." Chopper transforms and cries out with relief, "I FEEL MUCH BETTER NOW..." while thanking her, "THANK YOU VERY MUCH." Dalton watches with a serious expression as the boy reacts with joy, "!!" and "HAA..."

Dr. Kureha smiles widely, "HEEHEE HEEHEE! THAT WAS A NICE LITTLE GIFT." Outside, she laughs, "HEE HEE HEE HEE" as Dalton carries the injured boy away. She bargains, "I'LL... I'LL PAY THE MONEY... THANK YOU, DOCTOR." and "FINE, I'LL LOWER IT TO JUST 49%." In a dramatic close-up, Kureha adjusts her goggles and declares, "DON'T YOU FORGET, ABOUT THAT SENSE OF HAPPINESS JUST NOW!" while the boy is carried off in the background.
