One Piece Chapter 139: Tony Tony Chopper Enters

In a snowy landscape, the wind howls with a "HUFF HUFF..." sound. Vivi is struggling through the deep snow, dragging an unconscious Usopp behind her by his coat. She pants heavily, saying, "COME ON, USOPP, HANG IN THERE!" Usopp slides through the snow with a "NGHHH!" and "UGH..." sound. Vivi suddenly screams "AGHH!" and yells, "WAKE UP, USOPP! IF YOU FALL ASLEEP NOW, YOU'LL DIE!" Usopp, still asleep and drooling, mutters, "THAT'S PROBABLY BECAUSE THAT IS HEAVEN! I CAN SEE A FLOWERBED AND RIVER SO BEAUTIFUL THEY LOOK LIKE THEY BELONG IN HEAVEN... MNN... DON'T WAKE ME UP NOW, VIVI. I'M IN THE MIDDLE OF A GOOD DREAM."

Vivi frantically slaps Usopp's face repeatedly with loud "SLAP SLAP SLAP" sound effects, crying out, "USOOOOOOOPP! NOOOO! YOU CAN'T DIE, USOPP!" Usopp wakes up, groggy, saying, "MN... GATHER AROUND, USOPP PIRATES..." The wind continues to howl. Vivi sighs in relief, "AND I'M GLAD TOO THAT YOU'RE ALIVE." Usopp replies, "THANKS FOR SAVING ME BACK THERE, VIVI." Vivi looks around and says, "LIVING ON A WINTER ISLAND SURE IS TOUGH WITH THE EXTREME COLD AND ALL... ANYHOO, WE BETTER FIND OUT WHERE EXACTLY WE ARE RIGHT NOW." Usopp, whose face is comically swollen and bruised from the slapping, asks, "IS IT JUST ME OR IS MY FACE SWOLLEN A BIT...?" Vivi nervously lies, "N-NO, IT'S JUST... FROSTBITE. YEAH, FROSTBITE!" Suddenly, Usopp points ahead in shock, yelling, "WHOA, WHAT'S THAT!?" They both look at a large, snow-covered figure sitting on the ground ahead of them.

The snow-covered figure is revealed to be Zoro, sitting cross-legged and shivering violently, covered in a thick layer of snow and icicles. He is shirtless, showing his large chest scar. He mutters, "AGH, FOR THE LOVE OF... A RANDOM AVALANCHE ON TOP OF THIS FREEZING COLD? TALK ABOUT A BAD STROKE OF LUCK... WELL, I GUESS I SHOULD JUST CONSIDER THIS AS AN EXTENSION OF MY WINTER ENDURANCE TRAINING..." Vivi and Usopp stare at him in disbelief. Usopp calls out, "ZORO?" Vivi adds, "VIVI!" Zoro turns his head, his teeth chattering with a "GAK GAK" sound, and says, "OH, YOU MUST BE USOPP. THE HELL ARE YOU TWO DOING HERE?" Usopp angrily yells back, "WHAT'RE YOU DOING OUT HERE!?"

Zoro explains his situation while shivering: "ICE-WATER SWIMMING!?" Usopp asks incredulously. Zoro continues, "YEAH, AND I SURPRISINGLY SAW SOME FISH SWIMMING IN THE FREEZING RIVER SO I THOUGHT IT'D BE COOL TO CHASE AFTER IT. BUT THEN AFTERWARDS, I GOT LOST SO I STARTED WALKING IN ONE DIRECTION AND BEFORE I KNEW IT, I WAS LOST IN THIS FOREST..." Usopp yells, "HOW STUPID COULD YOU GET!?" Zoro demands, "WHATEVER, JUST LEND ME YOUR COAT, USOPP." Usopp refuses, "OH HELL NO." Vivi thinks to herself, "I WONDER IF NAMI'S ILLNESS HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH MENTAL STRESS AND EXHAUSTION FROM DEALING WITH HER CREWMATES..." The wind blows harshly. Zoro, still freezing, begs, "THEN AT LEAST YOUR BOOTS...!...EVEN A SINGLE ONE'LL DO!" Usopp replies, "TOUGH LUCK, BUDDY." Suddenly, Vivi points ahead and says, "LOOK! HEY, THOSE HOUSES LOOK FAMILIAR..." They look down from a snowy ridge and see a village below. Vivi realizes, "AH, YOU'RE RIGHT! THEN THAT MEANS... WE'RE AT BIGHORN VILLAGE! WE MUST'VE COME BACK TO WHERE WE STARTED!" Usopp notices a crowd in the village, "THERE'S A WHOLE GROUP OF PEOPLE GATHERED THERE!"

Down in the village, a large group of armed soldiers in winter gear are gathered. Usopp, Vivi, and Zoro observe them from a distance. Usopp asks, "YO, WHAT'S GOING ON? WHAT'S GOING ON WITH YOU AND YOUR HALF-NAKED BODY!?" Vivi says, "THE AVALANCHE BURIED DALTON! BUT THESE BASTARDS WON'T LET US DIG HIM OUT OF THERE! WHAT!? DALTON WAS...!" The soldiers are threatening the villagers. One soldier shouts, "BEAT IT, PEASANTS! DALTON'S ALREADY DEAD SO DEAL WITH IT! AS IF DALTON COULD DIE THAT EASILY! AND YOU'RE HIS FORMER SUBORDINATES, DON'T YOU HAVE ANY SHRED OF COMPASSION!? WE'RE SERVANTS TO ONE MAN ONLY, AND THAT'S KING WAPOL! ANY WHO GOES AGAINST HIS MAJESTY'S WILL IS AS GOOD AS DEAD!" The soldiers laugh cruelly, "IF YOU'VE GOT ANY COMPLAINTS, FEEL FREE TO STEP FORTH! OR DO YOU NOT EVEN HAVE THAT MUCH COURAGE NOW THAT YOUR PRECIOUS DALTON'S DEAD? HAHAHAHA!" Usopp recognizes the soldiers, "USOPP, I THINK WE'VE SEEN THOSE UNIFORMS ONCE BEFORE... THOSE GUYS WERE THE ONES WE MET ON THE SEA SOME TIME AGO, RIGHT?" Vivi confirms, "UH, YEAH..." Zoro asks, "SO THEN THEY'RE ENEMIES." Usopp replies, "WELL, AM I RIGHT!? ARE THEY ENEMIES OR NOT!? UH YEAH, THEY'RE ENEMIES BUT I DON'T SEE WHAT YOU'RE SO IMPATIENT ABOUT..."

Zoro leaps into action, launching a powerful flying kick at one of the soldiers, striking him squarely in the face with a loud impact sound. The soldier grunts "NGHH!" as he is sent flying backward. The other soldiers are shocked, yelling "WHA!" and "WHO!?" One recognizes him, "MR. BUSHIDO!" Zoro lands, still shirtless, and laughs maniacally, "AHAHAHA! MAN, THIS IS WARM!" The soldiers point their guns at him, shouting, "KILL HIM! YOU ATTACKED US JUST FOR THAT!?" Usopp and Vivi watch in dismay. Usopp sighs, "GREAT, NOW YOU'VE GONE AND PISSED ALL OF 'EM OFF." Vivi adds, "THESE GUYS JUST NEVER LEARN, DO THEY..." A villager yells, "HEY, YOU! STOP OR THEY'LL..."

The scene shifts to the exterior of the massive, snow-covered castle atop the Drum Rockies. The wind howls around the towering structure. Inside, a voice says, "DOCTRESS, I'VE DETECTED AN ANTIBODY REACTION." Another voice replies, "THEN TELL ME, WHAT'S THE CAUSE?" The first voice answers, "KESTIA." The second voice says, "OH, IS THAT SO? ALRIGHT, I'LL LEAVE THE TREATMENT TO YOU."

Inside a dimly lit, gothic-style medical room in the castle. The room is filled with strange medical equipment, bubbling flasks, a cauldron boiling over a fire, and skull motifs on the furniture. A small, bipedal reindeer wearing a pink top hat with a white cross walks across the room, carrying a bowl and a cloth. He walks with a "WALK WALK" sound. In a large bed with a checkered blanket, Nami is sleeping peacefully. She slowly opens her eyes with a "TAP" sound, waking up. She looks around the room, taking in her surroundings.

Nami sits up in bed, looking confused, and asks, "WHO'S THERE?" Chopper, the small reindeer, is startled by her voice. He jumps back in shock, yelling "ACK!" and dropping the books and medical supplies he was carrying. They crash to the floor with loud "CLATTER" and "CRASH" sound effects. Nami stares at him, surprised by the commotion. Chopper looks panicked, his eyes wide as he scrambles to pick up the dropped items.

Chopper quickly dashes behind a stone doorway to hide, but he comically hides the wrong half of his body. His head and torso are completely visible to Nami, while he tries to conceal his back behind the wall. He peeks at her nervously. Nami sweatdrops and says, "UMM.. I THINK YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO DO IT THE OTHER WAY. AND I CAN STILL SEE LIKE, HALF YOUR FACE. JUST WHAT ARE YOU?" Chopper suddenly bursts out from his hiding spot, yelling angrily, "SHUT UP! Y-YOU DARNED HUMAN! BY THE WAY, HOW'S YOUR FEVER?" Nami is taken aback and screams, "GYAAAAAA! IT TALKED!" From outside the room, a voice yells, "KEEP IT DOWN IN THERE, CHOPPER!"

Dr. Kureha enters the room. She is a tall, slender, elderly woman with long blonde hair, wearing sunglasses, a crop top, and low-slung pants. She is drinking from a bottle labeled "UME". She laughs, "HEE HEE HEE HEE HEE! LOOKS LIKE YOUR FEVER'S GONE DOWN QUITE A BIT, MISSY. YOU HAPPY, PAPPY?" Nami looks at her and asks, "AND YOU ARE...?" Kureha smiles widely and says, "I'M DR. KUREHA, BUT YOU CAN JUST CALL ME 'DOCTRESS.'" Nami asks, "DOCTOR? THEN THIS IS..." Kureha interrupts, striking a pose, "YOU WANT TO KNOW THE SECRET OF MY YOUTH?" Nami flatly replies, "NO, I NEVER ASKED." Nami realizes, "THIS IS THE CASTLE ON TOP OF THE MOUNTAIN."

Nami asks Kureha, "THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN TWO PEOPLE WITH ME! DO YOU KNOW WHERE THEY ARE!?" Kureha takes another gulp from her bottle and replies, "YEAH, THEY'RE SLEEPING SOUNDLY IN THE ROOM NEXT DOOR. REAL TOUGH BOYS, THOSE TWO." Kureha then pulls down the collar of Nami's shirt, revealing a swollen bite mark on her stomach. "HERE, LOOK. THIS HERE'S THE CAUSE OF YOUR FEVER." Nami looks down in shock, "WHAT!?" Kureha explains, "YOU WERE BITTEN BY A KESTIA, A POISONOUS TICK THAT LIVES IN THE TROPICS. THE BACTERIA LIVING IN THAT TICK CHANGES HOSTS WHEN THE TICK SUCKS ON THE BLOOD OF ANOTHER ANIMAL. ONCE INSIDE, THE BACTERIA CAUSES GREAT PAINS FOR ITS NEW HOST FOR 5 DAYS. FEVERS OF 40 DEGREES OR MORE AND INFLAMMATION OF VARIOUS BODY PARTS OCCURS, INCLUDING THE MYOCARDIUM, ARTERY, AND EVEN THE BRAIN! JUDGING BY THE BITE MARK, IT LOOKS LIKE TODAY WAS YOUR THIRD DAY SINCE INFECTION. IT MUST'VE BEEN QUITE PAINFUL BUT THE PAIN WOULD'VE NATURALLY SUBSIDED AFTER 5 DAYS OF INFECTION EVEN IF WE LEFT YOUR BODY AS IT WAS... HEE HEE HEE..."

Kureha leans in close to Nami, her face shadowed and menacing, and finishes her sentence: "BECAUSE IN JUST 2 MORE DAYS, YOU'D BE RESTING IN PEACE IN THE AFTERWORLD." Nami is terrified, sweating profusely, and stammers, "...WHAT!?" Kureha backs off and laughs, "HEE HEE HEE... I'M JUST TEASING WI- IT'S WHY IT'S ALSO KNOWN AS THE '5 DAYS DISEASE.' FROM WHAT I'VE HEARD, KESTIA SHOULD HAVE WENT EXTINCT OVER A HUNDRED YEARS AGO, SO YOU'RE REAL LUCKY THAT I HAPPENED TO HAVE THE ANTIBIOTIC FOR IT. JUST WHAT THE HELL HAVE YOU BEEN DOING, MISSY? RUNNING AROUND HALF-NAKED ON A PREHISTORIC ISLAND?" Nami realizes, "AH!" Kureha notices her reaction, "WHAT, DID I ACTUALLY HIT CLOSE TO THE MARK? WELL, AREN'T YOU A HOPELESS CASE." Kureha pushes Nami back down onto the bed, saying, "JUST GO BACK TO SLEEP FOR NOW. YOU HAVEN'T FULLY RECOVERED YET." Nami grunts, "OOF!"

Nami sits back up and says, "THANKS FOR YOUR HELP, BUT I'M FINE AS LONG AS MY FEVER'S GOING DOWN. MY BODY CAN HEAL ON ITS OWN NOW, RIGHT?" Kureha smirks, "DON'T GO UNDERESTIMATING A NORMALLY FATAL DISEASE NOW, YOU NAIVE LITTLE GIRL. IT'D NORMALLY TAKE SOMEONE 10 WHOLE DAYS TO RECOVER WITH THE PROPER TREATMENT. BESIDES, WITH MY MEDICINE, YOU'LL FULLY RECOVER IN JUST 3 MORE DAYS! SO UNLESS YOU FEEL LIKE EXPERIENCING A WORLD OF PAIN AGAIN BEFORE DYING, I'D SUGGEST YOU STAY PUT." Nami is shocked, "3 WHOLE DAYS!? NO, I HAVE SOMEWHERE I NEED TO BE RIGHT N-" Before she can finish, Kureha swiftly pins Nami to the bed, holding a sharp scalpel directly to Nami's throat. Kureha's expression is deadly serious as she says, "THERE'RE ONLY TWO CASES IN WHICH I LET PATIENTS LEAVE MY SIGHT. HEE HEE HEE... WHEN THEY'VE HEALED... OR WHEN THEY'VE DIED! YOU'RE NOT GOING ANYWHERE, MISSY." Nami gasps, "WHAT...!"

Suddenly, Chopper runs screaming through the room, "GYAAAA! HEEEELP!" He is being chased by a battered and bruised Sanji and Luffy. Luffy yells, "STOP RIGHT THERE, YOU PIECE OF MEAT!" Sanji adds, "HOLD YOUR HORSES, LUFFY. I'LL FIRST MAKE SURE TO SEASON IT UP FIRST. IF WE'RE GOING TO EAT IT, WE MIGHT AS WELL EAT RIGHT, YOU KNOW?" Nami watches them run by in disbelief, "LUFFY, SANJI..." She thinks, "WELL, COLOUR ME SHOCKED. DIDN'T THINK THOSE TWO COULD BE UP AND ABOUT SO SOON. AND... HUH? JUST WHAT IS THAT BLUE-NOSED TALKING DEER-DOLL?" Kureha smiles and says, "WHO'RE THEY, CHOPPER? HE CLIMBED UP THIS MOUNTAIN WITH HIS BARE HANDS!? BUT DRUM ROCK'S PEAK IS 5000M TALL!"

Kureha recounts to Nami how they treated the boys when they arrived. In a flashback, Kureha examines Sanji and says, "HIS BODY'S COMPLETELY FROZEN! JUST WHAT WAS HE THINKING, WALKING AROUND WITHOUT EVEN A COAT!? GO WARM UP THE BATH AND THROW HIM IN AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!" Chopper examines Luffy and asks, "THIS ONE'S LOST A LOT OF BLOOD, NOT TO MENTION 6 BROKEN RIBS AND A CRACKED SPINE... IS IT ALRIGHT IF I OPERATE ON HIM?" Kureha then checks Nami, noting, "THE WORST ONE HERE IS THIS GIRL. SHE'S ON THE VERGE OF DEATH. CHOPPER, GO GET ME PHENICOL, CARDIOTONICS, AND SOME TIALCILLIN!" Chopper asks, "IS SHE INFECTED?" Kureha replies, "...YES, AND I DON'T THINK IT'S A DISEASE ENDEMIC TO THIS ISLAND." Back in the present, Kureha reassures Nami, "DON'T WORRY. BOTH OF YOUR PALS HERE WILL BE FINE." Nami shivers, "SHIVER SHIVER... UGH..."

Luffy, despite his severe injuries, is still trying to catch Chopper. He mutters through swollen lips, "DEYR... MY... FREE... NS... (They're my friends)." Kureha says, "UNDERSTOOD, I'LL MAKE SURE TO TREAT THEM. CHOPPER, GET A MOVE ON!" Chopper replies, "R-RIGHT!" But Luffy and Sanji are still chasing him. Chopper yells, "QUIT IT, YOU HUMANS!" Sanji yells, "STOP RUNNING AWAY FROM ME, MEAT! LUFFY, I TOLD YOU NOT TO EAT HIM YET!" Chopper cries, "I HATE HUMANS LIKE YOU!" Kureha tells Nami, "YOU WANT TO KNOW WHAT HE IS? HE'S CHOPPER, JUST AN AVERAGE BLUE-NOSED REINDEER... BUT REINDEERS CAN'T TALK! BUT WITH ONE CATCH." Chopper suddenly stops running and his body begins to bulge and transform. He yells, "I SAID STOP!"

Chopper transforms into his massive, muscular Heavy Point form. He turns around and delivers a powerful double punch to both Luffy and Sanji, smashing them into the stone floor with a huge crash. He roars, "I'M NOT YOUR FOOD!" Kureha explains to Nami, "WHICH GRANTED HIM HUMAN ABILITIES. HE ATE THE HITOHITO FRUIT, (note: hito means human). I POURED IN ALL MY MEDICAL SKILL AND KNOWLEDGE IN HIM." Chopper, back in his small Brain Point form, pants heavily, "DAMMIT!"
