One Piece Chapter 278: Conis

Inside a massive ornate ship interior, a long-haired woman sits in an elevated mechanical throne-like structure. A voice remarks, "Is causing a commotion over at Angel Beach..." Another adds, "It seems that girl..." Below, Nami stands with a surprised expression, exclaiming, "...Conis!I It can't be... She should be on our ship..." A figure on the stairs replies, "Um... Does that ability you call mantra allow you to tell who's doing what farawayI I'm a special case." The long-haired woman continues, "There's all kinds of commotion still going on outside... Though they're all of only trivial concern. Yahahaha..." Nami sweats nervously as the woman explains, "So then... A country of this size is easily covered in my range. And if I were to hear any undesirable talk... I send forth my judgment. I can complement my mantra with my lightning body to read electromagnetic waves, allowing me to listen in on conversations."

Enel sits on his throne and declares, "Truly, an ability fit for a god..." He laughs, "Yahahaha... Run, run, run as much you want, angels of the sky...!" Below on a lower deck, several figures tumble as the ship tilts. One shouts, "You, there... Nami watches tensely from the side, sweat visible on her face, reacting with shock as the floor shifts beneath them.

A close-up shows Enel with a serious expression, thinking silently. Nami looks concerned and asks, "Is... something the matterI" Enel wonders internally, "WHO COULD IT BE...!I" as sweat drops appear. In the grand hall, a warrior with a sword stands on the stairs facing Nami, who has her back turned. Enel states, "...No, It's nothing..."

A high-speed chase erupts across the clouds as Conis speeds away on her waver. White Berets shout from the docks, "What're you doing! Catch that girl!" An officer barks orders, "Restrain the blasphemer as soon as she docks!" Another sneers, "Stupid girl! You're already a bird caught in a trap!" His subordinate snaps to attention, "YES, SIR!" Conis grips the controls tightly, sweat on her face, as the vehicle splashes violently through the clouds. In the large lower panel she leans forward and yells desperately, "PLEASE GET OUT OF THE WAY!"

Conis's waver rockets past palm trees and buildings while two White Berets on the ground stare in shock. One cries, "How can this happen!I" Narration states, "The direct servants of the priests, the White Berets have been-" The vehicle slams into a stone wall with a massive "ガーン!!!" impact; the rider is thrown forward as voices scream "CAPTAIN!" and "CAPTAAAIN!" The waver flips violently amid "ガンッ!!!" and "ガンガン!!!" sounds, sending Conis tumbling through the air with a pained "VR000mmm..." and "AHH-" as debris flies everywhere.

The crashed waver lies in the sand as townspeople point and shout, "The woman who went against God!" and "It's the criminal! Cpt. McKinley!" Conis stands up, breathing heavily with "HUFF... HUFF...", and pleads, "Listen to what I have to say! Everyone, please!" A White Beret yells, "She's resisting the White Berets!" McKinley glares and growls, "Blasphemer!" while another villager screams, "That's right! With you here, all of us here might be drawn into God's judgment! Get lost from this island, demon!" Conis turns away with a grim expression as impact lines and "ダダッ!!" mark the tense standoff.

Conis levels a massive bazooka at Captain McKinley, shouting, "DON'T COME ANY CLOSER!" He recoils with "ジゴォォォ!!!" sound effects as she warns, "This is a flame bazooka. And I'm not afraid to use it!" In the wide lower panels she continues desperately, "YOU MUST ESCAPE TO THE BLUE SEAS!" while townspeople flee amid "どよ" and "どよっ!" cries. A final shout rings out, "EVERYONE! MAKE YOUR WAY TO CLOUD'S END!" McKinley and the White Berets stare in shock as the confrontation reaches its peak.

Shock ripples through the crowd as Conis's words sink in. "What...!I" someone gasps. A captain stares in disbelief while another figure growls, "What nonsense she's spouting...!" In a massive, radiant panel, Conis stands with wings spread wide, tears streaming, and shouts with desperate fury: "IS PLANNING ON DESTROYING THIS COUNTRY! EVERYONE WHO REMAINS HERE WILL DIE! GOD ENEL!" The crowd erupts in outrage. "DON'T YOU DARE RIDICULE OUR GOD ENEL!" one man roars. Others murmur in confusion: "What's she planningI", "That's crazy...", "...WhaI" and "Is this her idea of revenge!I"

Conis's face hardens with resolve as she stares ahead, sweat and tears visible. A small winged girl nearby gasps, "Agh- S... Sorry..." The order comes sharply: "Arrest her! She threw down her weapon!" A soldier salutes, "YES, SIR!" Conis takes a deep breath. In a dramatic full-page spread, she raises her fist and declares, "ENEL AS A GOD! I REFUSE TO RECOGNIZE!" Black impact shapes explode around her as the crowd watches in stunned silence.

Conis's eyes widen in horror as she cries out, "FATHER!" A massive explosion erupts nearby. "WHA-" someone shouts. In the chaos, a winged man lunges forward yelling, "GET AWAY FROM HER! GOD'S JUDGMENT IS COMING!" The blast hurls people and debris skyward while Conis screams, "SHE ACTUALLY SAID IT!" Smaller panels show the smoking aftermath, with figures tumbling through clouds and buildings damaged by the force.

Smoke drifts over the ruined city as Conis stands with eyes closed, tears falling. Villagers react in shock: "But she said such blasphemous things...!", "WhyI", "Isn't the judgment... The judgment coming..." In a close-up, Conis explains with fierce determination, "To deliver the message that Skypiea will be destroyed. It's because Enel has no need to extinguish a mere single life anymore! It was a member of God's militia who risked his very life, But in doing so, he and my father received judgment."

Panic spreads through the ruined streets as a voice rings out, "You must all go to Cloud's End now!" "There's no time left." In a massive close-up, Conis leans forward with tears and fury, yelling, "DO YOU REALLY THINK A MIRACLE WILL COME IF YOU WAIT!I" Narration states, "WE ALL KNOW VERY WELL THAT THE ONLY THING GOD HAS IN STORE FOR US... IS EVEN MORE DESPAIR!"

Conis stands tall amid the rubble, declaring, "DOES NOT HAVE A GOD!" A background voice adds, "There are things that take priority over praying which must be done right now!" She continues firmly, "At the very least, this country as of now..." Turning sharply toward stunned listeners including a long-haired man and a small winged girl, Conis shouts, "IT WON'T MATTER HOW MUCH YOU LATER RESENT THOSE RESPONSIBLE! YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PROTECT YOUR LIVES!" "If you don't take matters into your own hands, Things are different now! You will no longer be spared simply by cowering as a victim!" In an intense close-up she cries, "TO ABANDON YOUR COUNTRY TO SAVE YOUR LIVES! SO RESOLVE YOURSELVES!"

People begin to flee through the devastated ruins. "DASH!" A man in a hat runs while others mount winged birds and take to the sky. "HUFF" A massive striped bird lands near a jagged hole in the ground; someone yells, "YES! IT'S THAT HOLE FOR SURE!" Another confirms, "YOU'RE SURE, RIGHT!I" With urgent flapping and motion lines the group launches downward, "PSEERRE!" A voice calls, "THEN LET'S HURRY!"

High above the broken city, crosses mark the sky as debris falls. In the ruined square a voice says, "BUT I CAN'T CARRY ALL OF THEM AT ONCE..." Another replies, "WE HAVE TO MAKE OUR WAY UP TO THE UPPER STRATUM...!" "AT THE VERY LEAST..." A battered girl with dark hair stares upward in exhaustion, sweat drops and "ハッ... ハッ..." visible. Nearby lie several unconscious figures, including a round-headed person and others sprawled in the rubble. The final panels show a large mechanical fan-like device inside a wooden structure amid smoke and debris.

Atop the massive ruins, Enel stands with his golden staff, smirking as he declares, "As I suspected... They were not among the 5 survivors..." A small figure watches from below. Enel continues, "To see that my prediction was off... How unpleasant..." In the lower panels, Nami appears with a surprised expression, sweat on her face. A voice calls out "Ah!" as another figure stands on the steps. Then a bold shout rings out: "ARE YOU THE ONE CALLED ENEL!I" Nami reacts with shock, exclaiming "What!I" while a close-up shows a stern face with a scar.

Luffy bursts onto the scene with intense fury, shouting "WHAT THE HELL DID YOU DO... TO MY CREW." Massive impact effects explode around the ruins as debris flies. Enel, seated with a calm yet menacing look, responds with "I" and asks, "Which trash do you refer toI" Luffy stands ready in the foreground, his back to the viewer, as someone yells "LUFFY!" The massive structure looms behind them with windmills and scaffolding.
