One Piece Chapter 963: Becoming Samurai

What happens in chapter 963

Long ago the minks and the Kozuki clan swear an eternal bond of family. Inuarashi and Nekomamushi leave home to see the world but wash ashore in Wano with Kawamatsu, where villagers bind them to stakes to burn them as monsters. Oden arrives, frees the three children, and takes them to Kuri Castle, where they eat and share their pasts of hardship and discrimination.

At Kuri-Kuri Castle, a group stares in shock at the arriving monsters. "WHY DID YOU BRING THESE MONSTERS HERE, SIR ODEN!I" someone demands. Oden replies simply, "THEY FOLLOWED ME." A wide view shows the castle and waterfall as the crowd reacts with "WHAAAA!I" In the next scene the minks explain their situation: "WHEN WE WERE ALMOST BEATEN TO DEATH!!" Oden sits with them, replying, "I WILL NEVER FORGET WHAT YOU DID FOR ME TODAY." Kawamatsu bows, "BUT YOU FED ME DELICIOUS FOOD, TOO. I AM SO GRATEFUL. NOT ONLY DID YOU SAVE ME," as Inuarashi scolds, "NOW YOU'RE ACTING LIKE AN ADULT!!" Outside, Oden laughs, "HYAHAHA HA!! WHAT AN INTERESTING CAT!!" while the minks struggle with the heat: "PBBFFFT!! IT'S STILL TOO HOT!!" and "MINCH MINCH MINCH." They offer, "I'LL HELP YOU FINISH IT!" "I'M SORRY, KAPPA!" Oden stands and declares with a grin, "MEETING YOU GUYS HAS MADE ME REALISE... In the next tier, an afro-haired man protests, "WHY DO YOU KEEP DOING THAT!I YOU LENT MONEY TO THAT OROCHI FELLOW, RIGHT!I" A stern figure replies, "OH, WELL... Chapter 963 summary

Long ago the minks and the Kozuki clan swear an eternal bond of family. Inuarashi and Nekomamushi leave home to see the world but wash ashore in Wano with Kawamatsu, where villagers bind them to stakes to burn them as monsters. Oden arrives, frees the three children, and takes them to Kuri Castle, where they eat and share their pasts of hardship and discrimination. The minks refuse to leave, Oden’s household grows, and his retainers are caught stealing money in Hakumai. Yasuie gives them the funds and trains them to become proper samurai who speak formally and carry themselves with dignity. Three years later Oden’s followers arrive in the Flower Capital in a stately procession that impresses the citizens and moves his father Sukiyaki. That same year a Whitebeard Pirates ship climbs the waterfall at Port Itachi; Oden rushes to the coast and demands to join their crew.
