Chapter 54 title page: "CHAPTER 54 'PEARL'". Luffy hangs from a ship's mast, waving a bottle and shouting "Kin...!". Nami sits at a table on the deck, smiling while holding another bottle. A large cooked fish with a pirate hat rests on the table between them. In the background a tattered Buggy flag with hearts flutters, and a wanted poster of Buggy is visible. The caption at the bottom reads "ADVENTURES OF THE BUGGY CREW VOL.14 'PIRATE ALLIANCE'".

A massive impact shakes the Baratie; the top panel shows the restaurant's upper structure exploding outward with the giant sound effect "ドゴォオオオ!!". On the deck, a Marine lies defeated while Don Krieg's subordinate Pearl, armored and wielding a spiked mace, stands over him. Pearl shouts "HE KICKED AWAY THAT WEIRD-ASS SHIP!" and "W-WHAT STRENGTH...!". Two cooks watch in shock. In three smaller panels below, Luffy grins widely and exclaims "NOT BAD!", Zeff stands with a stern expression and a line of dots "......", and Patty glares while muttering "THAT KICKING TECHNIQUE....!".

Sanji clashes violently with Pearl inside the restaurant as the fight erupts. Pearl roars, "SAAAAA-ANJIIIIII!" while Sanji yells back, "YOU TRYING TO KILL YOUR OWN SIDE!I" Pearl's spiked armor and massive frame dominate the panel as debris flies. In the next panel Sanji stands calmly with a cigarette, replying "Yeah." to taunts from the cooks: "YOU ALMOST LOST 2 POWERFUL FIGHTERS, YOU SPAGHETTI-HEAD! DID YOUR BRAINS BOIL INTO STEW, YOU RETARD!I" The Baratie sign looms in the background as the battle spills across the floor. A cook shouts, "SO WHY DON'CHA SCRAM BACK INTO SOME OTHER KITCHEN ON LAND!" while another retorts, "POWERFULI HA! EVEN IF YOU HOLD WEAPONS, A COOK'S STILL A COOK." Pearl lies sprawled, groaning "Ugh..."

Don Krieg's pirates stand triumphantly over fallen Baratie staff and customers. One pirate declares, "WE'RE PIRATES OF DON KRIEG, THE RULER OF EAST BLUE! DON'T COMPARE US TO OTHER PIRATES YOU'VE CROSSED BEFORE!" Large impact SFX "どくん!!" explode across the panel. Defeated men lie scattered on the floor with "!!I" reactions. A pirate sneers, "THEY'RE NOTHING LIKE THE OTHER PIRATES THAT WE'VE BEEN ABLE TO BEAT BEFORE!" while a Baratie cook mutters, "SHIT... THESE GUYS ARE STRONG...!" In the bottom panel the head chef yells at his men, "AND YOU CALL YOURSELVES FIGHTIN' COOKS!I ARE YOU GONNA LET THEM BEAT YOU THAT EASILY!I"

The cooks refuse to surrender the restaurant. A Krieg pirate demands, "SO JUST QUIETLY HAND THIS BOAT OVER TO US!" while the head chef swings a massive weapon, shouting, "SO WHAT IF YOU'RE FIGHTING COOKS!I WE FIGHT FOR A LIVING!" Multiple speech bubbles from the chef recount his past: "HERE, WHETHER IT BE FIGHTING OR COOKING, WE CAN DO IT AS MUCH WE WANT! AFTER SEARCHING AND SEARCHING, WE FINALLY CAME TO THIS RESTAURANT! IN EVERY SINGLE ONE OF'EM, I'D GET INTO FIGHTS AND REFUSE TO BE HIRED! THOSE DAYS WERE ROUGH...! 10 YEARS SINCE I'VE BEEN A COOK! AND 300 RESTAURANTS I'VE GONE TO!" He finishes, "AS IF WE'D HAND IT OVER TO YOU PIRATE SCUM! THERE AIN'T ANOTHER PLACE AS GOOD AS THIS SHOP!" Impact SFX "グ!! アッ" punctuate the struggle.

The battle reaches chaotic intensity as cooks and pirates clash in a whirlwind of weapons and bodies. A massive scream "AGHHHHH!" fills the left side while figures are hurled through the air amid flying debris and impact lines. The head chef roars, "THIS IS THE POWER OF FIGHTIN' COOKS OF THE SEA!" as he swings his weapon. A Krieg pirate reacts in shock, "WHAT'S UP WITH THESE GUYS!I" Sanji and other fighters are visible in the melee, the restaurant interior torn apart by the fierce brawl.

At the Baratie restaurant, chaos erupts as several figures tumble from the deck into the sea with a loud SPLASH SPLASH. Onlookers react with shock: "Ah." and "!". Below, the cooks Patty and Carne stand tense on the wooden deck. Patty grips a large knife and growls, "WHO'S THIS GUY...". Carne narrows his eyes and mutters, "HMM!I". A stern-faced man with a spiral eyebrow watches coldly and says, "THE HELL ARE YOU GUYS DOING...I". In the next instant a massive impact strikes; a body is hurled violently across the floor amid shattering debris and motion lines as Pearl's attack lands.

Pearl looms triumphantly, spinning his massive iron shields and laughing, "HAAAA HAHAHA! BEHOLD!". He declares, "MY INVINCIBLE IRON WALL! PEARL!". A large caption identifies him as "KRIEG PIRATES 2ND DIVISION COMMANDER IRON WALL PEARL". Nearby crew members stare in awe. On the deck below, the fallen cooks lie sprawled; one shouts, "YOU ALRIGHT!I" while another calls out, "PATTY! CARNE!".

Pearl continues his assault, swinging his shield and shouting, "YOU JUST GOT A GOOD TASTE OF MY SPECIAL 'PEARL PRESENT'!" and "HAAAA HAHAHA! YOU WON'T BE STANDIN' AFTER MY LETHAL PUNCH!". On the floor, a cook struggles and yells, "HEY, LET GO!". Another pirate sneers while holding a knife, "HEH HEH, DON'T MIND IF I DO. THIS SHOULD CUT BETTER THAN MY KNIFE." and "HEY LOOK! THIS GUY'S GOT A DAMN FINE KNIFE ON HIM!". A voice cries, "JUST FRICKIN' DIE ALREADY!" and "LET GO OF YOUR DAMN HAND!". Sanji appears at the side, cigarette in mouth, watching silently as blood drips from the injured cook.

The force of the blow sends a body flying backward through the air, limbs flailing as a knife spins away. Impact lines and debris scatter across the scene. Below, the fallen cook lies motionless. In the next panel Sanji moves in a blur, his leg lashing out with a powerful kick that strikes Pearl's massive shield, producing a sharp impact effect and sending cracks through the air.

A knife spins through the air as a pirate is sent flying with a massive impact. "GYAAAAA!" "AGHH!" Pearl, the armored commander, reels from a powerful kick that sends his multiple shield-arms flailing. Sanji lands the strike with precision, his leg extended amid motion lines and debris. Pearl grunts "HMPH!" as the blow connects, his face twisting in shock. In a close-up, Pearl's eyes narrow with realization. Below, Sanji stands holding the kitchen knife, smoke curling from his cigarette. A defeated pirate lies on the floor, muttering "W..." while Sanji stares down coldly. "WHA...I" the fallen man gasps.

Two Baratie cooks watch in awe as Sanji's kick sends Pearl and another pirate tumbling across the deck. "NO MATTER HOW MANY TIME I SEE IT, HIS KICKS ARE AMAZING..." one exclaims. Sanji stands calmly, gripping a large kitchen knife. "IT'S NOT SOMETHING AN AMATEUR LIKE YOU, SHOULD EVEN THINK ABOUT TOUCHING. A KITCHEN KNIFE IS THE SOUL OF A COOK." He points the blade forward. In the next panel he extends his arm toward the defeated Pearl. "NOW MAKE SURE YOU KICK THE BUCKET FOR GOOD THIS TIME. I'LL HANDLE THE REST." "HERE..." he says. A close-up shows Pearl bound and battered as someone calls out "SANJI..."

Inside the Baratie, Pearl's pirates charge Sanji. "YOU'RE JUST A COOK! YOU THINK YOU CAN TAKE US PIRATES ON!I" one yells. "HANDLE, MY ASS!" another shouts. Sanji ducks and counters with lightning speed. "WHAI" a pirate gasps as a knife flashes past his face. Another pirate reacts with "HMI" as the attack lands. The panel erupts into chaos: multiple pirates are struck and sent sprawling across the wooden floor with heavy impact sounds "カカカカッ!!!" Sanji's legs blur through the air amid flying bodies and debris.

Close-ups show the pirates' terrified faces, eyes wide and mouths open in panic as they are hurled backward. A massive impact sends several pirates flying through the air. "AGHHHH!" one screams. Sanji stands over the wreckage, cigarette in mouth, glaring coldly. "I'LL KILL YOU SCUM..." he growls. A surviving pirate stares up in disbelief. "JUST A COOKI"

On the wrecked deck of the Baratie, Sanji sits casually with one leg raised, facing the armored pirate Pearl. "A COOK'S HANDS ARE HIS LIFE. I CAN'T RISK FIGHTING WITH'EM," Sanji explains. "BUT DON'T WORRY, MY FEET'LL BE MORE THAN ENOUGH TO TAKE YOU DOWN." Pearl, seated inside his massive spiked iron shield, retorts with a mocking grin, "OR IS THAT YOUR POLICYI YOU STRIKE ME AS A RATHER LAZY GUY... HAH! TO BEAT UP ALL O'EM USING ONLY YOUR FEET." In the next panel Pearl leans forward, boasting, "I'VE WON THEM ALL WITHOUT SO MUCH AS A SCRATCH ON ME!" Sanji stands unfazed in the background as Pearl continues, "I'M AFRAID THAT JUST AIN'T HAPPENING! IN THE LAST 61 FIGHTS I'VE BEEN IN, YOU MAY PROTECT YOUR HANDS IN A FIGHT, BUT I FIGHT WHILE PROTECTING MY ENTIRE BODY. YOU TAKE ME DOWNI" Close-up on Pearl's confident face, he points upward and declares, "NOT ONE, SINGLE DROP. I'VE NEVER EVEN LOST A SINGLE DROP OF BLOOD IN ALL THE FIGHTS I'VE BEEN IN."

Pearl spins his massive shield with a loud "ガッーン!!" and shouts, "THAT'S WHY THEY CALL ME KRIEG PIRATES' 'IRON SHIELD PEARL!' THAT'S PROOF OF MY INVINCIBLE STRENGTH!" In close-up his eyes narrow smugly as he adds, "HAS GOT QUITE THE FASHION SENSE. AND MY IRON DEFENCE." From the railing Luffy watches in confusion, sweat drop forming, thinking "WHAT'S WITH HIMI" Pearl strikes a pose and asks, "AIN'T I STYLISHI" Suddenly a voice warns from off-panel, "YOU'LL GET HURT IF YOU LOOK AWAY IN A FIGHT! STRAWHAT!" as Pearl lunges forward with his spiked shield.

Pearl's spiked iron ball smashes into Luffy, sending the straw-hatted pirate flying backward with a pained "AGH!" and impact lines "×イッ!!" In the next panel Pearl swings his morning-star flail again, yelling "DIE!" as Luffy ducks under the chain. The final panel shows Luffy taking a direct hit to the gut, doubling over with a loud "OOF!" as Pearl's spiked weapon connects.

Sanji charges forward with a flying kick, shouting, "I'D LIKE TO SEE YOU TRY TO FIGHT ME WITHOUT GETTING HURT!" Pearl blocks with his shield and answers, "ALRIGHT, THAT'S ENOUGH TALK FROM YOU." The kick lands squarely on the shield with a massive "キーン!!" impact; Pearl boasts, "I CAN EVEN WITHSTAND A DIRECT BLAST FROM A BATTLESHIP CANNON!" A small inset shows Pearl's face as he declares, "NO MATTER THE ATTACK, I'M IMPENETRABLE!" Sanji's follow-up strike produces another loud "ガッーン!!" and Pearl grunts "ACK!" in surprise.

Luffy stares in surprise with a simple "HMI" Sanji, cigarette in mouth, reacts with "HMI" while glancing aside. In the background, a suited man stands near a cloaked figure on the wooden deck as someone remarks, "GLAD I DIDN'T FALL INTO THE OCEAN." and another voice adds, "WHEW, THAT WAS CLOSE." A tense close-up shows a scarred man with an earring sweating heavily, his mouth open in shock as he utters "HUHI" with motion lines and a large empty speech bubble beside him. Below, chaos erupts: a group of pirates and cooks react in horror with wide eyes and open mouths. One yells "OH SHIT!" while another shouts "IT'S BLOOD!" A large man with a headband and spiked armor grimaces, muttering "SHIT..." as impact lines and debris fill the air around the panicked crowd.
