CHAPTER 79 “LIVE ON”. A stern Marine captain in uniform salutes and glares, asking, “LITTLE MISS DELINQUENTI DID I JUST HEAR YOU RIGHT,”. An older man reacts with "HMI" The crowd surges forward, weapons raised, shouting "SO WE MIGHT AS WELL FIGHT! THE REST OF US ARE GOING TO GET BLAMED ANYWAYS! Chapter 79 summary

A younger Genzo reacts in shock when Bellemere declares she will raise baby Nami and young Nojiko as her own daughters despite the villagers' protests. In the following years Genzo scolds a thieving Nami while Bellemere scolds both girls after they fight boys who insulted her oranges, then she encourages them to stay strong. Arlong shoots Bellemere dead in front of Nami and Nojiko after she refuses to pay his tribute. Arlong's crew seizes Nami for her mapmaking talent, beats the villagers who try to stop them, and sinks all the village ships. Genzo and the others decide to fight rather than live under Arlong's rule. Nami returns wearing the Arlong Pirates' tattoo, announces she has joined them as their cartographer, and shows the money they gave her. Nojiko attacks her in rage and orders her to leave the village. At Bellemere's grave Nami tells Nojiko she will buy Cocoyasi Village from Arlong for 100 million beli by working alone for the pirates.
