Ashura Doji is the former leader of the Atama-yama thieves who became one of Kozuki Oden's most trusted retainers after a decisive defeat in Kuri. He is known for his role in reforming the lawless region under Oden's rule and for his later resistance against Kaido's forces as head of the Mount Atama Bandits. Ashura Doji fought in the raid on Onigashima and ultimately gave his life in the effort to free Wano Country.

Appearance

Ashura Doji possesses a large muscular build and wild curly hair paired with a thick beard. He wears a wide straw hat along with a cloak featuring flower patterns and striped clothing beneath it. Facial scars and markings are visible on close inspection during confrontations.12

In the lawless region of Kuri Ashura Doji reigns as the unstoppable monster who breaks open the front gate and carries Oden after a huge fight. At an abandoned village in Kuri the allies provoke Ashura Doji by leaving a sign reading The Head Mountain Bandits were here. Shutenmaru. Kin'emon wonders if the trick will work and notes that at the very least the man himself will get mad.12

Ashura Doji single-handedly defeats a group of opponents overnight and claims leadership over the defeated men. He chooses his former defeated opponents as his samurai retainers. Ashura Doji is depicted as large muscular bandit with curly hair drinking sake and labeled unstoppable monster of Kuri with wide grin.1314

Kuri origins

In the lawless region of Kuri young Lord Oden defeated Ashura Doji after a massive clash that established Oden's dominance over the area's criminals and ronin. Oden then forced the former outlaws including Ashura Doji to build the town and castle instead of punishing them outright.1516

Bandit leader years

Years later Ashura Doji operated as Shuten-maru leading the Atama-yama thieves in Kuri forest while resisting Kaido's forces. He confronted returning allies over past actions and guided them to graves that represented the weight of twenty years of suffering.1718

Resistance period

Ashura Doji makes a sudden entrance into scenes with a loud cry and leads responses among fleeing residents when Kaido appears. He reaches graves in Kuri where the weight of twenty years settles and declares the group is now twenty years stronger after a massive impact. Ashura Doji apologizes for being late after realizing he was flung into the future by Toki's power.192021

Alliance with Oden

After the defeat Ashura Doji and his men became Oden's samurai retainers and helped transform Kuri into a peaceful prosperous place. Oden was later named daimyo of the region and the former bandits celebrated the change alongside the residents.2223

Relationships

Ashura Doji formed a lasting bond with Kozuki Oden after being defeated and reformed. He later expressed emotional gratitude upon seeing the peace Oden created and vowed to follow him as a samurai rather than serve uptight officials.23

Ashura Doji maintained ties with Kin'emon and other retainers while challenging their long absence. He guided the group to sites of past hardship and ultimately fought alongside them during the raid on Onigashima.2425

Ashura Doji confronts former allies over past destructive actions. In the ruins of Kibi Zoro walks with Tonoyasu who sings and expresses gratitude while following the group.2612

At the graves beneath rumbling earth Ashura Doji says it has already been ten years and questions waiting for people who may not return. He insists that with Lord Momonosuke alive Kinemon and the others will certainly return. Memories show rebels refusing to bend the knee to Orochi while Kaido's army destroys their well and burns their crops.27

Kiku remembers the wound from Ashura Doji's sacrifice and states that even the sharpest sword becomes dull when pointed at a friend. At the Eternal Graves in Ringo Oden will be put to rest with Yasuie and surrounded by allies including the other daimyo who fought for Wano while Ashura Doji and Izo also died.2829

Ashura Doji confronts the group with a massive impact SFX and declares the group is now twenty years stronger. Raizo and Ashura Doji appear as recognizable figures during the clash while Ashura Doji is shown in close-up with wild hair open mouth and intense shouting expression.303132

During the raid on Onigashima Ashura Doji appeared in Sulong form and demanded whether the group still deserved to be called Oden's samurai. He continued fighting without bleeding when struck and declared that mockery of Kozuki Oden ends there.333435

Ashura Doji stands with rifle held at side and laughs with wide open mouth declaring they failed to defeat Kaido before but now have another chance. He declares Oden died that day while standing tall laughing amid flying debris and impact lines.36

Ashura Doji appears in full Sulong form with flowing mane flames and beast-like muscular build. His monstrous face shows open roaring mouth and heavy shading while his striped clothing and belt remain visible in transformation.37

Onigashima raid

During the raid on Onigashima Ashura Doji appears in Sulong form and demands whether the group still deserves to be called Oden's samurai. He continues attack after initial blast in his clash with Kanjuro and huffs while facing the opponent. Ashura Doji laughs loudly that he cannot blame others for being surprised at the reunion and insists Oden-sama definitely died that day.38721
