In Udon prison

In Udon prison Hyogoro is attacked by guards after being caught with food tickets and kibi dango. He refuses to betray the giver of the tickets and is recognized as the former yakuza boss. Luffy intervenes as guards prepare to execute him.155

Raid on Onigashima

During the raid on Onigashima Hyogoro organizes forces with Shishilian and declares intent to lead the samurai of Wano. He later transforms after virus exposure and fights until he becomes an ice demon. He asks allies to end his life if he loses control and leaves the rest to them with no regrets.1617

Relationships

Hyogoro thanks Luffy for saving his life and later teaches him ryuo techniques. He intervenes when yakuza bosses threaten Luffy for disrespect and warns the boy to be careful. Luffy calls him gramps and recognizes his importance among the bosses.4187
