Chapter 557 summary
Luffy and the Impel Down escapees remain trapped inside a battleship stuck in the giant frozen wave above Marineford. Jinbe points out the ongoing war below, and Luffy insists they must reach Ace before his execution in three hours. The group works together to free the ship and rides it down the ice, but the descent veers out of control and the battleship plunges into the narrow strip of open water on the battlefield. The escapees climb onto the ice as Luffy spots the execution platform and calls out to Ace, who answers him. Sengoku identifies the arrivals as escaped convicts including Jinbe, Crocodile and Ivankov, while Jinbe declares he is resigning as a Shichibukai. Whitebeard remarks on the mismatched group just as Crocodile lunges at him, but Luffy intercepts the attack. Luffy tells Whitebeard that Ace cares about him and that he himself will become Pirate King, then adds that he is borrowing his straw hat from Shanks. Whitebeard grins at Luffy's defiance.
