Captain Kuro
Captain Kuro is a pirate who abandoned his identity three years ago after faking his own capture and execution by marines. He infiltrated a village as the butler Klahadore to gain access to Kaya's large inheritance following her parents' death from sickness. His goal centers on obtaining both wealth and peace of mind by having his former crew attack the village while making her death appear accidental so he can claim the fortune without suspicion. Early encounters
Captain Kuro first appears in chapter twenty three where he volunteers to join Luffy's crew as captain while describing Kaya as a pitiful weak sick girl who always lies in bed. He explains that her parents died of sickness around a year ago and left her a large inheritance with over ten servants and states that wealth does not exempt one from sorrow.1314
Three-year scheme
On a cliff Captain Kuro discussed the assassination details with Jango and insisted that killing Kaya was not enough and that it had to look like an accident. He rejected suggestions of inheritance claims due to having no relation to her family and emphasized that the most important part was making the killing appear accidental.15
Three years prior to the main events Captain Kuro met Jango and began the plan to fake his death and abandon the pirate life because his name brought constant marine attacks. He decided at that time to permanently eliminate the name Captain Kuro and hide in the village while ordering his crew to stay away.16
